Ah damn, forgot they stopped going those.

Anyways, not sure why this is new news to you guys. Because it is One Piece I guess? There's been a big group of anime streaming soon after they have shown in Japan from various JP/US companies.

It's good to see, but I can't be bothered to try an get a browser on my TV pointed to the site and hope it a) works and b) looks good on the TV.

Also, the show has been in HD since episode 207. HD stream that shit up!

No they don't.

They've got the first few episodes up to entice people to buy the DVDs, and will upload everything in the Sabaody Archipelago arc on.

So yes, maybe SOMEDAY years and years from now they'll have the entire series up, but they're not going to do so until after the episodes are already released on DVD for those episodes prior to 391.
Well I'm just quoting from their press release. You're right that they don't give a time frame:

In addition, beginning Thursday, May 14th FUNimation will stream episodes from the Sabaody Archipelago Saga story arc starting with episode 391. FUNimation will also offer both its produced uncut, English-tracked and English-subtitled adaptations of the hugely successful series beginning with the first episode.

RagnarokX just gave me some very bad news.

As anime fans know, FUNimation Entertainment planned under the authorization of Toei Animation, Fuji Television, Shueisha for the first ever online simulcast of the series ‘One Piece’ tonight at 9:00 pm CDT., just one hour after its premiere on Japan’s Fuji Television. Unfortunately, in the last 24 hours we have determined that the FUNimation servers were compromised, even though we employ strict security standards. An unknown individual accessed and posted episode 403 online and as a direct result of this illegal act, all U.S. and Canadian fans will be deprived of access to this great anime series for the immediate future. We will use the full extent of our efforts to locate and prosecute the perpetrators and will provide updates in this most serious matter.
FUUUUUCKKKKK

I can't watch the One Piece dub. The series seems interesting enough, but the dub is terrible. Luffy's voice is annoying as hell and all the characters do is scream at each other.

The dub is obviously intended for little kids.

Then just go subs...?

I'm pretty sure the dub changed drastically after it stopped airing on FOX Kids.

Finally, I was thinking about what animation companies need to do, and this was the elephant in the room. Now other companies should follow suit. And make sure to include subs.

Off to DL that shit then. Fuck out of here FUNi.

The DVD version dub is decidedly NOT appropriate for little kids.

Also, the pulling of the streams is almost definitely not FUNi's idea. The subbed versions are owned by Fuji TV, Shuiesha, and Toei (FUNi is simply handling distribution for them), and pretty clearly they were pissed the episode was available online a full day before it even aired in Japan. I imagine it was probably Fuji TV specifically that was furious, since they would be the ones getting dicked the most.

a) Japanese companies do the subs?
b) I'm guessing' it's not possible to watch the entire series this way?
c) There probably isn't even a reason to have the file online until they need to "air" anyway.

I hope this gets resolved though. It's a great idea and I almost wish that all anime could be licensed and distributed this way.

Guess how it got leaked? Someone changed the number for the direct link of an old episode to 403.flv instead of whateverepisodenumber.flv. Way to go Funimation. Wonderful security.

It must be a dark day over at Kaizoku.

Aren't they like hundreds of episodes behind or something?

This is pretty cool of funi. Hopefully the fans support them.

what? you need to stop thinking one piece isn't for kids I've watched all the funi dvds with my 10 yo cousins

Crunchyroll does this for Naruto and offers 720p video one hour after Japanese airing with subtitles.

You need to pay if you want to see it when it airs, or you can watch it free the next week (so you'll be a week behind Japan, but it's free online on the site).

An archive of every episode is also available.

Glad to see this type of thing spreading around, however. It really is so much better to stream 720p off a website than it is to d/l the episodes.

Dude. They're doing this because of Toei.

Look at it this way:

Toei makes a deal with Funi to give Funi the One Piece eps early so Funi can have their subs ready for simulcast.

Funi fails to properly secure their servers. As a result, an authentic unaired one piece episode gets leaked with japanese audio and english subs. Toei's ratings drop, they get less advertisement revenues, and they lose money, because of funi's screw up.

Funi is faced with having screwed up the handling of their FIRST EPISODE in their simulcast deal with Toei, and it's certain that the relations with Funi and japanese animation studios were damaged because of this, since this doesn't do well for funi's rep among the studios.
It hurts funi's ability to secure licenses, or to not have to pay a premium for them, if the japanese studios can't trust Funi to securely handle the intellectual property they are entrusted with.

You may be upset, but keep in mind that Toei entrusted the episode to Funimation, and will face revenue losses because Funi let it be leaked before it was even aired on TV. Don't be mad at Funi for acting this extremely as a response, because they need to maintain relations with Toei and other companies in Japan in order to properly run their business, and they're probably not at liberty to say whether they can or can't air the episode, or when.
