Is GEIST getting worse with time?

It might be cool were inanimate objects -- laptop, dog food, fire extinguisher -- not possessable things... The idea (possession) went from cool to silly with that move.

Agreed. Seeing the dog or rat's snout is also silly, they should've switched to a 3rd person perspective ala MP for animal posession sequences. Manipulating inanimate objects to raise a person's fear factor is understandable, but N-Space clearly went overboard with the concept.

Lets not forget Square came out with The Bouncer and that Type R-whatever racing game, and we forgave them.

And lets not forget Sega.

They also gave us FFX-II, Unlimited Saga, and a whole host of stinkers. Doesn't matter. Rare gets crucified for releasing SFA, which was above average, IMO, and GBTG, which was average...and that's all it took to condemn them to hell.

You're in the dark in a bad way if you think that's all it took to condemn Rare.

How? Because they've been shuffled from the GC to the XBOX to the X360 and didn't produce more than three console titles in that time? You can't lay blame soley on Rare here. MS got them to move PD0, Kameo, and who knows what else to X360 from the XBOX. Sure, Rare is slow, but they're a very consistent, quality developer...certainly responsible for more game sales than a most developers out there. Rare gets shit for stupid reasons, IMO...ah but who cares.

Apparently some people forgot what this game used to look like.

1996: Killer Instinct Gold
1997: Diddy Kong Racing, GoldenEye 007, Blast Corps
1998: Banjo-Kazooie
1999: Donkey Kong 64, Jet Force Gemini
2000: Banjo-Tooie, Perfect Dark, Mickey Speedway USA
2001: Conker's Bad Fur Day

2002: Star Fox Adventures
2003: Grabbed by the Ghoulies
2005: Conker Live & Reloaded

I think that's a big reason for people to be pissed off at them.

To be fair, though, Kameo's been in constant development and retooling for each console, locking up resources, and PD0 supposedly originally started life as a GCN game too, right? (And in an interview Rare talked about what they were able to do on the XBox with PD0 before it became a 360 title, so obviously they've been redeveloping that too.)

You have to feel sorry for Rare. Under Microsoft, only GBTG has been uniquely designed for the Xbox. (But the trademarked was registered way back in the Conker N64 days.) Conker's a port of an N64 game, and PD0 and Kameo are both efforts originally developed for the GCN back as far as 2001, at least. They've been staring at older game concepts for 4 years now that they've been developing and redeveloping details and resources for... I bet they're ready to do something new. And so Microsoft will say to them, "Hey, about Banjo and KI..."

What's wrong with remaking what you released three games ago? Everything lol m i rite? Either MS has their head up their arse or Rare has serious problems.

Funny that a Geist thread has turned into a Rare discussion.

Nintendo dumped Rare because they were making trash NOT the other way around.
You make it sound like Rare should be excused for being sold. They got sold because Nintendo knew they didn't have the magic they used to.

Kameo was in the planning stages after they had finished Donkey Kong 64...

No, the development was started for GameCube sometime in 2000.

PD0 and Kameo are both efforts originally developed for the GCN back as far as 2001, at least.

Kameo was much different, watch the IGN videos of the GCN version.

They always change those game concepts. Best example: Kameo, feautures were added and then erased, monsters were added and there are just 10 now (more than 50 were planned)

It's scientifically impossible for it to be good. It's fucking N-SPACE. Makers of the horribly shitty third-person Duke Nukem games on the PSX and such instant classics as Danger Girl.

Yeah that game sucked horribly but Zero Hour for N64 was pretty damn impressive. Why can't Nintendo hire THOSE guys instead, why N-Space? Are they that cheap? And Kujo is no better I'm just glad they stripped the Famicon Wars brand name from the title. They need to make a REAL Cube Wars/Rev Wars from Intelligent Systems.

The difference in quality from those screenshots make me wonder if they are from the same build of the engine sometimes. Some textures on the walls look very lowres, yet in a gameplay movie a door-texture was pretty highres. I'm not anticipating this game at all, I'll wait and see.

So really, are these games funded by the NOA side of Nintendo?

Is this what NoA brings to the table?

Im just interested if NoA actually does anything for Nintendo to the effect of having games developed that are made tailored towards American tastes.

For some reason I think this game looks good when I see it in videos. The textures get fairly detailed up close and the lighting is colurful. But I think its the desperation for a exclusive FPS on GameCube which is clouding my judgement.

Seriously, can you believe this is the first exclusive FPS on the cube? Its been out how many years and we have to wait until 05 for an exclusive. Really pathetic, they need to fix that next gen.

This is nothing..I remember people being so desperate for an exclusive FPS on the cube that they were excited for that DieHard game....

I vaguely recall such gold as:
"it is so unique....you could take hostages, no other FPS has done this., this game will definately kick ass!!!"

Check out the last two videos here. God this game looks terrible.

Press L to Stand?

:lol Looks like the game is going to suffer for having to be played with a Gamecube controller.

I've seen the screens and i've seen the videos. I dont care what you guys say, this game does'nt look bad at all. The environments have a good ammount of detail, the models are alright, and the animation is actually pretty good. The only thing I see lacking is the effects and texture work.

I have a feeling this game will surprise alot of people, I'm sensing solid high 8's scores.

The animation, particularly the running animation, looked god awful to me.

I'm not being funny but the video on IGN, "Ethereal mist. It frightens me.". When I first ran the video I thought it was a camera man taking a shot of the E3 booth and then about to focus on a gamestation playing a copy of E3 and then I realised it was the actual game! It can't be that bad if it had me falled into thinking it was real.

Nowhere near as bad as the screens look (as with all cube games) but obviously not the best looking game the world has ever seen. Oh and isn't this an FPA now as well? hehe

I thought it was always an FPA. Wasn't it a game designed around the puzzle solving elements of navigating your way from the start of the level to the end of the level by way of your abilites to manipulate objects or posessing beings.

Well I certainly hope it's something more like a FPA than an FPS, because any game that would have to depend on those shooting mechanics would flop like a pancake.

I actually think Geist looks good and I love the concept. I'll be first (and likely last) in the non-existant lineup to get it.
