Is it just me, or is Neogaf slow today?

Honestly, today with Gaf down I realised how much I use this forum. It's pretty much the only website I use to kill time or to decompress from work (and procrastinate).

I refreshed during the entire day in vain. I think I might have a slightly problem or I need to find another way to kill time when stuff like this happens.

And my mourning routine of checking Gaf while eating breakfast was totally broken.

Same here dude, at least I had saltybet to hold me over

Are you guys serious with the "my life isn't the same" or "I can't go on without GAF" posts? Shit is depressing and embarrassing if GAF is truly all you have.

It was a really weird day... been a member of old GAF/NeoGAF since I don't know... 2001? I momentarily panicked that maybe the owner is dead and this place will just dissolve. I felt homeless, GAF has been my go-to place since I was teenager. It's an impulse, an unbreakable habit.

Sometimes there are those days where literally no one has time and you don't feel like playing anything. In those times there's always GAF. This wasn't the day today, though (at least not in Europe). At 40°C there's no reason not to be in a (public) pool or at a lake/biergarten/cafe whatever.

Plus you would be sad at Evilore's demise right ?

:-P

Sadly whatever magic the used to use to stay off of my company's firewall no longer works so I noticed it was down at lunch when I tried from my phone but did not realize the extent

GAF going down, PSN going down, whatever happened with Reddit, and Amazon having issues all at the same time seems weird. Every other website I tried since like 4AM to now was acting strange

R.I.P. Internet

Well, I wouldn't be happy.

What do you mean? Could you give a brief synopsis? I heard it was someone getting fired that caused the ruckus?

For many years reddit has operated as a site that didnt moderate its content and was very community focused. In the past few years the communication from the Reddit admin team has become sparse and the mods who managed the community (volunteers that keep their specific subreddits on task and message) were becoming increasingly fustrated with the lack of communication, tools to manage the site and assistance from the admin community when needed. One glowing spot in all of this was Vistoria. She is most well known as the person that brought IAMA into the forefront by not only being a point of coordination/communication for these but also validated the legitimacy of bigger IAMA's and made sure these people were aware of what they were getting into (there are a few famous IAMA's before Victoria were movie stars thought they were coming to promote their movie with simple questions *see rampart* and did not understand what the purpose of this was)

Chairman Pao as she has been so affectionately named, became interm ceo of Reddit. Since her rise to power there has been many decisions that have greatly affected the website and its user base. Some of these measures, such as shutting down 5 "toxic" sub-reddits were met with great ire. As a site that has not moderated content in the past now without warning shuttered sub-reddits that they deemed in-appropiate. Even if you agreed that these sub-reddits should be shut down, this was seen as a half mesaure. The ones shuttered pale in comparison to some of the other sub-reddits on the site and the content they promote.

The latest of these offenses was the firing of Victoria, without warning (and as she has said, she does not know why she was fired). There were multiple high profile IAMA's on the dock, and now the point of communication and coordination for these was let go without warning and without a plan to replace her or her functions. Again the Reddit admin team went mum on the subject and as the Mod's of IAMA had no way to operate the way they had, they decided it was best to close the doors temporarily. While it was Victoria's firing that triggered this, it was not the sole reason, this all comes back to the Reddit admin teams lack of communication and the direction the site has been heading. Decisions that affect the community, the mods and the overall health of the site have been made on what appears to be a whim without feedback or forthought to the greater community. This in action triggered many of the most popular sub-reddits to all close their doors

To make matters worse, many members of the admin team and Pao herself have made random comments (mostly all deleted now) that greatly dismissed the concerns or were just normal PR bs and only fanned the flames more.

Kinda boring surfing the net with Neogaf being down tbh.
Was checking Twitter to see what was going on and found out about the Reddit drama so read about that instead.
Not being a Reddit user it wasn't that interesting though.
