Is it okay to feed my dog pizza?

One time my dog stole a piece of pizza from the box, but the cheese was melted so she ended up taking 4 or 5 slices.

Each birthday she now gets a whole pizza just for her.

It is only once a year and a Hawaiian pizza so no onion, and Australian sizes are smaller than US sizes... I think the diameter is 11 inches for a large.

That poor dog.

Lol.. what have you done..

Besides the health concerns, it's generally considered bad form to give a dog leftovers. They are suppose to eat after we eat, and they are not suppose to beg for our food. The habit is difficult to get rid of once taught too.

That being said, I imagine most of us do give them leftovers once in awhile regardless.

Just give your dog dog food. If you wanna treat them, just get some little treats. They get just as hype for a little tiny treat as they do for a slice of pizza. When I take the lid off the treat jar my dogs go fuckin crazy.

I give them bites of stuff sometimes, but no need for a full on piece of pizza lol

Can she eat it? Depends upon the Pizza. something like Pepperoni isn't terrible, but other kinds would be worse

Should she be eating it? NO. Dogs should be eating dog food, as the nutrients that they need are different then humans. And not any of that Purina filler crap, something like Akana.

If you want a fat dog.

That's for a 20lbs dog though. Big dogs can eat more.

She seems to really like it. Is there stuff that I shouldn't feed her? I'm still new to this dog owner thing.

I mean it's a dog. I once went to get the door and came back and my dinner was gone. Dogs will eat anything. Doesn't mean they should.

Basic rule if you want your dog to live a long happy life - don't feed it any human food.

Google "what food is toxic to dogs", if you wanna be specific [hint: it's lots].

That's a good pizza dog.

I'll hook mine up with some Pepperoni's, but he's 14 years old, mostly blind, and awesome as fuck. He deserves it. Love that damn dog, I'm not going to handle it very well when he finally passes.

When i was a teenager we had a dog that ate everything. We as a family fed her anything she wanted from pizza to chocolate.

Long story short. She got diabetes and went blind, i had to give her insulin shots every day. Poor little guy, I had no idea back then (early 90s)

It depends on what you mean by "give her pizza".

If you mean nibbling off a tiny bite of one of your slices and giving her that then yeah, it's not a huge deal. Even the smallest bit of anything you have means the world to a dog.

If you mean giving her a slice or two of pizza for a meal because she likes it – no. Obviously no. That could be pretty bad for her with the garlic and/or onions. Not to mention whatever spices are used in the sauce and if she's intolerant to cheese you could have quite a mess on your hands.

That's entirely irrelevant. My dogs liked ice cream and they were lactose intolerant. Give your dog dog food, it's called that for a reason.

Only if it has pineapple. I give my dog tortillas all the time. He started to speak Spanish the other day so I had to stop.

Growing up, my parents used to feed our dog every left over. She lived for some 15 years. I'm not telling you to do the same, but your dog isn't going to drop dead if you feed it pizza

Yup. My parents had multiple dogs and they always got the leftovers. Two bouviers lived to be 12.

One of my dogs loves apples and the other one hates them

Hell just sit there confused and watch him eat i,t even if I give them both a piece

Back in Vietnam we feed the dog whatever the left over we have after meals. And they all pretty much live long and healthy life. Granted Vietnamese diet is much healthier than American

If my dog stole pizza I would make sure he never so much as got to be within ten feet of a slice ever again.

That poor dog.

She's epileptic since before she ever tasted pizza. Every birthday she had made it to has been an event and she is cherished everyday. She has blood tests and liver tests several times a year and besides the epilepsy medicine shockingly the bloodwork and liver is very functional at 9 years old even after that one pizza a year.

At 9 years old she is still very healthy and well behaved.

Yeah but take off anything that's poisonous to dogs like onions first. I'm assuming you mean giving your dog a slice every month or so not every day.

Most Pizza sauces (at least in my neck of the woods) are made with onion/garlic powder. Please do not risk giving it to your dog. Onions and garlic are highly toxic to dogs.

Man, Im one of those people who buy specialty expensive treats for my dog but I remember growing up, the mutts in my neighborhood survived for years on just everything. Then again, these were the hard knock type of dogs.

Why aren't you googling this stuff BEFORE you potentially poison your dog? It's not that hard to do some research.

I wouldn't.

My mother's pomeranian almost died of issues with her giving him little bits of fatty food from time to time and his body couldn't handle it.

As a once a month treat? Sure. There are plenty of toppings that aren't great for them. But pizza is bad for everybody. Let your little doggio live a little.

My dog (PBUH) was a crust machine.

Every once in a while isn't going to do your dog any harm.

Stick to real dog food. Not PET food, but DOG food e.g. chickenbones, chicken, etc. like she would eaten when if she were born outside in the wildness. Get frozen leftovers from your local butcher every month and put them into your freezers. Easy, cheap, healthy, happy dog who won't touch the pet food from stores anymore.

Incase this isn't a joke, do not do this.

Edit: This only works if you also have a freezers of course...so if you don't have one then that's bad, but welp. :D Just don't feed chocolate and that shit.

No it isn't. It's called barfen and both my dogs are getting barfed since they were born and are more than healthy. The vet is always amazed how their hair looks and how fit they still are for their age. So no I am not joking and that is some serious good thing if you have the options. Normal pet food is the enemy, if you buy it from bad producers.

Edit: Also included are e.g. paunch or mixed stomach pigs and all. Normal food for dogs.

And, chocolate is also really bad for both dogs and cats.

Basically, read up on what things are poisinous for your pets please. Alot of common houseplants are really toxic too and alot of spices/snacks/candies.
