Is Kendrick Lamar on Sia - "The Greatest" the most phoned in feature of all time?

It's so cringeworthy. Reminds me of Jay-Z's verse on Monster.

Listen on YouTube

Lyrics:
Hey, I am the truth
Hey, I am the wisdom of the fallen - I'm the youth
Hey, I am the greatest
Hey, this is the proof
Hey, I work hard, pray hard, pay dues, hey
I transform with pressure, I'm hands-on with effort
I fell twice before my bounce back was special
Letdowns will get you, and the critics will test you
But the strong will survive, another scar may bless you, ah

Don't give up (no no), I won't give up (no no)
Don't give up, no no no (nah)
Don't give up, I won't give up
Don't give up, no no no
"My bounceback was special"?

The no's and "nah" sprinkled into the chorus are just icing on the cake.

Honestly "phoned in" for Lamar is like a killer feature for most rap artists. If anything his verse just didn't gel with the rest of the song.

In my opinon, Kendrick is overrated. I know 99% of people will disagree with me and they are entitled to their opinon as well but music is personal and I don't think he has any songs I want to listen to more than once.

Most nicki minaj pop features were actually done through the phone with the studio gussying then up at a later date. Absolutely unbearable.

Also his part on the song with Taylor Swift was dreck also.

Couldn't agree more. People putting his name near any of the greats gives me the vapors. KRS would straight clown Kendro any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

His features this year have been mediocre for the most part with exceptions on Really Doe and Sidewalks. He may be my favorite rapper, but even I can admit he been shit on features. Yet, on The Greatest it's decent.

That's just crazy to me. U listened to all his albums and couldn't figure find any songs u fucks with? He's incredibly versatile, I'd love to hear your top 3 favorite rappers

nah man Snoop Dogg is king of shitty features

he literally phones them in, like on this monstrosity of a song. Doesn't even show up in the video, probably never showed up in the studio either. Everyone involved with this song should be put in prison.

He was on fire for a minute on Control and then he kinda faded. TPAB was great and all but he never took on the world the way he proclaimed.

Hes a decent lyricist, better than many out there now for fucking sure. But he is trash on every feature I have listened to except Control. Fails to vibe with the track he is the guest on consistently.

Actually, I just remembered, I'm pretty sure there is a French Montana song where his verse just copied Jay or Biggie word for word, anyone know that one? Can't phone it in harder than that.

Why do they keep making Sia songs with shitty "featuring" versions?. She's good on her own we don't need a special guest.

The version of Cheap Thrills without Sean Paul that they play on adult contemporary stations is incredibly flat and hollow; sometimes a song is built around a feature.

He's not overrated, he's great, but I'm with you in that I don't want to listen to his songs more than once or twice.

His albums are like the King's Speech or There Will Be Blood: just need to experience the greatness but it's not a fun repeat experience.

Who are you comparing him to tho? I think Drake tops all but I don't fault an artist for his features, I fault him for his album music and his discography is superb

1. 50 Cent
2. Chingy
3. Chamillionare

Seriously though, I have listened to his albums, I respect his talent but I don't have him on repeat and don't see that changing anytime soon, it doesn't resonate with me and I have given it a reasonable chance.

Damn straight, but even then Earl kinda upstaged him

The man got upstaged on the song he and Big Sean did on Major Key. That ain't good.
Wow honestly this is the first time online seeing Big Sean did better on that song, I think u wylin'

Bruh u are stuck in the early 2000's holy shiiiit Chingy? What a list

Pop music is pretty much phoned in these days. Pretty faces who have okay voices that are enhanced and play over catchy beats by the best producers and dj's and songwriters.

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
'Cause I am the champion, and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Above is Katy Perry lyrics for Roar.

Below is Rihanna and work which says the words out but she doesn't fully enunciate as she is trying to emulate the jamaican style of speech.

Work, work, work, work, work, work
You see me I be work, work, work, work, work, work
You see me do me dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt
There's something 'bout that work, work, work, work, work, work
When you a gon' learn, learn, learn, learn, learn, learn
Me na care if me tired, tired, tired, tired, tired, tired

Nah, not sure about that. Kendrick is a GOAT but I don't think he always puts effort and equal quality. Untitled Unmastered pretty much did that.

Kendrick knows Sia's audience doesn't care about bars. He went for some generic inspirational rhymes, which is all you need for a lot of pop features. Compare this verse to his verses on Control, Really Doe, Nosetalgia, etc and he obviously knows when he needs to try and when he doesn't.

I agree. He's a talented lyricist, but his songs just aren't very good. Needs to step up his ear and production I guess.

And yeah, I noticed how garbage his verse is in that Sia song. Most raps on pop songs are unnecessary filler though.

Sarah Connor featuring Wyclef Jean - One nite stand

This has some of the worst lyrics ever.

Wyclef and Sarah Connor
Holler, lend me your ears
This is the wickedest combination
Since Sonny and Cher
Say here girl,
Take these dozens of roses
And let me part the red sea like I was Moses
Love is love
Two wrongs don't make it right
So let's make love in the dark
Till we break daylight
Then hit the autobahn
You and me in a Ferrari
Fall asleep in Germany,
Then wake up in New York City

hip hop features on pop songs usually have to be the most inoffensive shit possible because they have to play on top 40 radio stations that our moms listen to
