Is Kingdom Hearts really all that confusing?

More so than another other series with a lot of games?

I will give you things can get retconned, or mentioned randomly, but I honestly don't see it.

Am I weird for being able to follow and remember the entire KH story as I experience it?

When you have to read a Wikipedia entry to follow the storyline, you know it's shit.

Still love KH1 though.

Well damn, everything with a plot line ever.

You hear that shit, the story is shit.

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying, but I was saying that the game requires you to read outside sources to fully comprehend the stupidity of the storyline.

I never had to read any game-external documents to understand the storyline.

But, I also have finished every game in the series, and understand that seven games is a fairly steep entry requirement. Especially when release order isn't chronological order.

The Final Mixes also add small but story-critical elements, but hopefully we'll finally get all of them with the ReMixes.

The story isn't hard to follow if you actually play the games, but that doesn't stop it from being ridiculous. Xehanort alone is can of bullshit that if you tried to explain it to a normal person they would think you are a insane.

People attack Kingdom Hearts' story because it is one of the most discussed stories in all of gaming. It's one single story that spans multiple consoles and generations, and that is where the problem comes from. Anyone who is really confused by the story most likely has not played all or enough games to get the gist of what's going on. If you read a book and skip a few chapters, odds are you'll be confused. Same logic applies to Kingdom Hearts. Now, I will admit that some crazy ass shit happened in Dream Drop Distance, but after you come to terms with it... it still works.

Eh, that depends on the person. And that could be said for anything, I had to look up something because I didn't know what what going on in one peice. Apparently one peice is shit now by your standards.

I find the Halo story to be more confusing than Kingdom Hearts. Like who the fuck is the Didact and why is he a dick? At least I can play one of the few KH games and understand the story and not have to sift through a dozen books and comics to understand the mainline story.

the entire premise of mixing FF with Disney characters is like something an 11 year old came up with on a gamefaqs board. when the first game was announced so many years ago people thought it was a joke and/or they were kind of embarrassed to play it

don't get me wrong, i love the games to death... but it's absurd on a fundamental level

This is up here is a true statement.

Is that a parody? I've only played the first Kingdom Hearts but that document makes the plot sound stupid as hell.

Yes, and it isn't even accurate.

Hey guys, remember when it was about visiting disney cartoons ?

=(

This criticism bugs me more than the others. There hasn't been a single game in the series where a bulk of the action did not take place in a Disney-themed world, except for MAYBE 358/2 Days. There was a lot of Twilight Town in that game.

Oh god I was about to mention Halo.

I've played the campaign of every Halo game and sometimes I'm still like "wut?"

One Piece is pretty shitty so yeah.

If the story is well written, it shouldn't have to be re-paraphrased by some internet geek in order for it to make sense.

Kingdom Hearts, besides being needlessly non-sensical and convoluted, just doesn't have a good story period. I love the worlds and universe of it at all though.

I'll give you that skipping a game in a series can lead to confusion, but unless they're direct sequels on the same platform you shouldn't be required to play all the games out there to follow a story.

The last part of your post:

Could read: "It'll be over soon. Just let it happen."

And I haven't played any Kingdom Hearts game since the first one on PS2. But the story line wasn't that ridiculous in that game.

But the game is only SET in disney worlds.

It is not ABOUT THEN

It is about a bunch of newly created characters that mostly don't have 1% of the charisma of any disney or Final Fantasy characters.

It is not about visiting, it is about organization 13 and how everyone is sora. And some yaoi there ... probably .. been a while

I've always thought the plot after Chain of Memories got really silly, but still somewhat possible to follow without too much trouble. Kind of ridiculous, but in a fun way.

Dream Drop Distance is where the series goes into that "Okay, this is stupid and convoluted no matter what way you spin this" territory.

I had to read a summary of a chapter of Lolita because I was confused by what was happening.

Lolita is now a shitty book.

KH2 kinda put a kink in things with the Org XIII (or Org "8" if you didn't play Chain of Memories and know who these jokers were and why most of their members were gone despite how they said they had XIII members), Nobody/etc nonsense, but it was still not too bad to follow. Even BBS, while silly in some respects, was somewhat straight-forward.

Dream Drop Distance on the other hand... yeah. I feel sorry for anyone who is going to be jumping into KH3 straight from KH2.

Is that a parody? I've only played the first Kingdom Hearts but that document makes the plot sound stupid as hell.

Interestingly enough, it actually comes across as being more stupid in the actual game.

hasnt that series been going on for 500 episodes?

This is what I'm talking about. No one gives a damn about the Halo story, and so that's why it and many other games go unaccounted for. Kingdom Hearts' story is heavily discussed and far more interesting than people like to give it credit for, and that is why it is always under attack.

That's pretty subjective, mang.

I'd say Sora's amount of "charisma" pairs along quite well with Donald and Goofy's.

This is how I feel exactly.

KH's story has become more of a guilty pleasure for me now anyways. It's enjoyable only if I don't think about too much...

I've played all of the games as they came out with one exception (Re:Coded).

The series isn't that confusing if you play everything. It is however, extremely convoluted for no good reason so I can see how someone could easily get lost.

DDD tipped the scale however. Im still not quite sure what the significance of the Recousant is... or what Xehanort's actual methods are. It just kinda jumped off the deep end.
