Is Phantasy Star Online Ep. 3 worth $20 if I only play it single player offline?

I like turn based card games a lot, as long as the rules is not too hard to understand, doesn't take too much time to get into, and a lot of good cards to collect, and the computer is good and get harder as times go on, and a lot of strategy needed to beat them............

The only problem with the offline story mode is when you have to deal with an AI partner..they're dumb as bricks :/

I must team up with a computer?

I probably won't care about the computer partner(unless it screws your game up too much), but how good are the computers I've to fight against?

Well thats the thing about the AI partners, they WILL screw you up. Infact, I think if they lose, you automatically lose too :P And the AI you fight against can sometimes be quite challenging if not cheap.

I see, doesn't sound too good.

And I read a review saying that the battle is slow? Like panning around forever like Skies of Arcadia when you enter a fight. And just generally the characters fight very slowly. And a lot of loading too. Is that true?

For most folks it seems so yea, I never really or noticed it. I just had great times with it online and every moment was on the edge exciting. I dont think loading was that bad.. :shrugs:

So the keyword is 'online'? Do you enjoy playing it offline at all? Because I was thinking it should still be pretty good still in single offline.......

Well, it's a strategy game at heart. Once you get into it and you're planning your next moves while things are changing on the field, or you're online trying to work something out with your partner, you'll appreciate the moderate pace of the game.

I've played this game offline much more than online mainly for it's story, which has you playing both sides of a conflict. Story presentation is MUCH better than the other PSO's.

Yup! For new cards, the battles, leveling myself up and the story itself. Online competitive play is just more enjoyable for me I guess ;D

Oh and Shinoobis got a point, CARD felt more like a Turnbased strategy game than it was a card game.

I like some card games, but this game is absolute trash offline. One of the most poorly paced titles I've ever tried.

If you have access to a PS2 get Culdcept. It's infinitely better.

I found the pacing to be very slow. I never played online because I refused to be raped by Sega again after their shitty support of PSO. I can't believe they charged as much as they did, then allowed so much cheating.

Anyway for me 20 dollars is a no brainer, basically if you like PSO at all buy it. It is far from a great title but it is good. The story is mediocre but the card battling is good.

Again my biggest issue is the pacing it is awful, every card you play is followed by an animation which loads so slow it is painful IMO. Really brings down the game. Also graphics are a bit weak and backgrounds are reused too much. but hey for 20 bucks who the hell cares buy it, if it entertains you for a couple of nights you got your moneys worth.
