The Extra tier is, especially if its your 1st time subscribing as you will get a massive list of good games you probably never played so that alone will give you months of gameplay. After you exausted the games you liked from the game library is a month by month case. Some months are decent, others are trash. At the end of the year its still worth the price but it depends from person to person.

In my opinion the service has lost a bit of its value with the price increase and removal of some big IPs with nothing really big replacing them. Coming next Black Friday i might just downgrade for the Essential Tier or just let it remain expired as i spend most time playing Free 2 Play games and the ocasional game i buy, I find myself losing interest in the games that are chosen for me to play, and im now more focused in just playing what im really interested in playing.

I love online multiplayer shooters so you really need ps plus, there’s a few freebie games but there’s gonna be shovel wear. PlayStation network going subscription is still bullshit. I remember it being free on PS3.

Yeah, it evens out in the end. Better than purchasing games outright from the store when they're on sale.

My gaming budget - outside of hardware - has been reduced YoY to roughly $600 with the premium sub ($720 total, reduction of 28%)

As someone who has been in the plus ecosystem since it started (Back when it was actually good), I've gone all the way down to Essential cause honestly I never thought there was anything of value I didn't buy already added to Extra and their Premium is honestly a joke for how little they add to it. I keep Essential because of the hundreds of games I've gotten over the years and I still play a couple online games that I need Plus for. I'm getting closer each year to just saying "nah" and not having at all, but that's gonna require alot of learning the ins and outs of upgrading my PC first.

For a new user? I'd wait for the Black Friday deal and do Essential for the 3-4 free games a month and gauge how you feel about it. You can find plenty of cheap games at Gamestops, Best Buys, Amazon, etc if there is a month that doesn't interest you. Hell this month has been the first good set of games that I can remember in at least 6 months so could be worth looking for a one month just to add them to your library and expire before BF sale. Right now you can get Dead Space Remake, WWE 2k24 and I think Doki Doki Literature Club, all solid games

I took PS Now the month before Premium would launch and still pay the lower price. Its worth it because of that. But otherwise Extra would suffice.
