Is Sid Meier's Civilization VII salvageable?

Yes, it is salvageable, its already worlds better than at launch and the patches keep moving the needle more towards fun. Like any modern Civ, it will be expansion pack 2 that makes the game "loved". So those waiting on it, I'd keep waiting, but it has gotten way better. They just majorly fixed the age transition system so its not completley busted now, and still has way more room to improve. They need to make an overhaul of the district system too, which it looks like they have already started laying the ground work for.

In recent entries, they have focused on accessibility rather than complexity. Each game feeling more 'dumbed' down than the last. The 'woke' selection of leaders is also irritating. Its almost like they have forgotten their core audience. Also, instead of creating truly distinct Civs with unique tech paths, units and buildings - the Civs have became practically interchangeable. What's the point in having different Civs if they all play the same? The devs don't know what the game is any more. Civilization, creatively, has never been more muddled.
Old Civ felt more nerdy/history buff and educational even.

Can it be fixed to be fun and enjoyable? Sure.

Can it be saved in time for it to matter? No. The ship has sailed.

The most important question is if it's worth even trying to save it.
Current player count is lower than Civ VI and V. So much so, that it would probably be more profitable to release DLC for Civ VI, than to release any for VII.
