Is Sonic Adventure 3: Shadow of Hegehog multiplatform or GC exclusive?

Sega of America announced they will release a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog title for unspecified platform this holiday season, called Sonic Adventure 3: Shadow of Hedgehog. The game will have a darker theme and emphasis on action, and for the first time Sonic can shoot down opponents with his new gun.

I wonder if Sega will keep this exclusive to GC, or port it to all 3 systems. Hopefully sega keeps it on GC and doesnt use F'N renderware.

judging by sales, I think it'll be at least on the PS2. I doubt there'll be an Xbox version, but perhaps there'll be one for Xbox 360 instead.

My only guess that it would be GC exclusive is based on this, but ST are port crazy so it pretty much doesnt mean much, but here goes.

"He says the new Sonic for Gamecube will be playable at this years E3 and released this year."

Naka only mentions a GC version of a new Sonic playable at E3. Also past Sonic Adventure games only got ported to GC(I know there's a PC version of DX, but that doesnt count), but that might have mroe to do with chaos than anything. Also, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is Sega's number 1 selling game, so maybe they wanted to keep it exclusive like billy hatcher was. Who knows, but at the very least i could see it as a timed exclusive. I hope it's not multiplatform just so ST doesnt use renderware.

Why was the last thread on this locked? Too much bitching? I noticed "Jim" edited a couple posts at Sega's request.

if Sega can afford pay someone to scour messageboards they're a lot better off than I thought...

so basically mayzora and teddman will be the ones buying this game right? just making sure, because the number "2" will appear in the sales charts, and we wont be confused as to who bought the game.

Well, unless I'm mistaken the title's actually "Shadow the Hedgehog" and not "Sonic Adventure 3: Shadow of Hedgehog". At least it was in the video.

I'm guessing it's multiplatform and likely another Renderware affair, the visuals looked on par with Heroes. Circle shadows forever!

Yeah... 2 million!

Sonic games sell very well. You must have this confused with Virtua Quest. :D

Apparently people cannot handle how cool and edgy this new Sonic game is. :D

As for Jim's edits, they removed the hi-res screenshots and concept art for Sonic Adventure 3 that were posted. Why those were not intended for release, I don't know. I thought the point of annoucing a game was publicity? The shots were of better quality that anything you could make out in the low-res trailer.

(only person to like the formula #2 present and accounted for!)

I'm wondering how it plays at this point. I'm thinking they're going to be recycling Gamma's shooting mechanics for this one, only now with selectable weapons

The trailer shows PS2 button icons in the HUD at several points, so at the very least there's probably a PS2 version in the works.
A PS2-version is inevitable. Just in the UK the PS2-version will outsell the GC one by 2:1.

The interview was in a Nintendo only mag wasn't it. PS2 is a certain IMO. Xbox, well if it runs on the same engine as Sonic Heroes (very likely by the looks of it) I wouldn't rule it out, eventhough sales for Sonic Heroes have been very poor on the xbox.

why can't they 1. make it just sonic levels (which they seem to be doing) 2. make it star JUST FUCKING SONIC and 3. Not use renderware so it doesnt look like cheap ass

WTF? Sega requested posts to be edited?

I was wondering why it was locked too. FUCK NAZI ADMINS

No, you're very mistaken. Both are wrong. It's simply "Shadow of the Hedgehog" for that extra edginess.

'Sup, spinoff game. I don't this is Adventure 3 or Heroes 2. They'll probably get around to making a standard Sonic version later, methinks.

And I thought that the Renderware use in Heroes was pretty good graphically, since parts like the Frog Forest were stunning

I may get aot of heat for saying this, but I don't think any third party company is going to give Nintenmdo an "exclusive" this late in the game. This generation is over and most games are going to go to PS2 or be multiplatform. I do think Gamecube will get a version of the Shadow the hedgegog, but I Know this game will be going to the PS2 as well. Heck, the game may even be ported to X-box. I think the interview with Naka came from a magazine that spotlighted Gamecube. That is the reason he mainly mentioned Gamecube for the new Sonic game, and not another system at the time of the interview. Yes sonic sells well on Gamecube but it also has sold well on PS2, especially in Europe.

This is probably another reason for a spinoff game too. Make something for the Cube and PS2 that people will have a whine about, while developing a nice-looking game with the mechanics that people really want for the Revolution or something. This is just top-of-head-guessing and speculation, though

Of course this is the kind of spin-off that would actually sell better on the Xbox than the PS2. But since it's a recognizable Sonic character well known on the Cube, it would also sell pretty damn well on that platform. In my opinion I feel Sonic Team USA should've dedicated all of their resources to just one version of Heroes for the Cube.

Who cares?
Because a small dev team like ST should put all of their efforts towards polishing off one version of the game instead of multiple platforms. If they do one after the other then that's fine.

One version of the game about a heat packing evil hedgehog that's haunted by it's past? ST should put all their effort into getting a fucking clue.

:lol I agree. This looks horrible.

But to be fair it still looks like the good ol' solid design the Adventure series is known for. It looks like a mixture of the Sonic/Eggman/Tails levels mixed into an easily accessible design. The speed is still there. That's obvious from the trailer. So are the amazing tracks and objects littered throughout the level.

Preach.

I would be more optimistic about this game if it was made by anyone other than Sonic Team. They have yet to release a single good 3D Sonic. Sonic Adventure was close but they keep getting worse and worse. The whole gun thing is pathetic too. Maybe the gameplay will be fun but knowing Sonic Team, it will be half baked at best.

but if you're mixing in the boring Eggman/Tails levels into the speedfreak Sonic/Shadow stages, thats just going to minimize what speed is left.

aside from that, a cartoon hedgehog using a realistic handgun is beyond stupid.

I just saw the trailer.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

That is the funniest thing I've ever seen. If it wasn't on IGN I would have thought it was a joke video. I seriously can't stop laughing.

I doubt there'll be an Xbox version

Why? Sonic Heroes sold 140k units on Xbox in US which isn't bad. And porting a renderware game over to Xbox shouldn't be that much of a hassle. So there's money that can be made even with an Xbox version. If the title goes multi, Sega will do an Xbox version. Of that I'm sure.

I wonder what kind of rating this game will carry.

A lot of younger kids LOVE Sonic...and having a character in the game with a real looking gun, with shells flying out after he shoots it...it's not a game suitable for children AT ALL.

Rated M? How about 17+?

It'll be interesting to see...

Even if the title is Holiday 2005 at the earliest? Who knows... the game might be a timed exclusive and not make it out to other platforms until after 2005. I think seeing it on the 360 would be much more likely. Kinda like Rayman 2: The Great Escape being on N64/PSX/DC.

Natsume, Konami, Hudson, THQ and ChunSoft still are. :)
