Is Tales of Rebirth going to be released in NA?

psycho_snake

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
I really want this game to come out in NA. I think it got released in Japan now or the release date is very close, but I've not heard anything about the game coming to NA. If its going to be anything like the previous Tales games then I would do anything to get it.

They should go on rerelease Tales overload and give us Symphonia PS2, Eternia PSP and Phantasia GBA next summer. Then bring over Melfes on whatever platform (PS2/PSP/GC) in 2006.

Project Melfes is the new Tales game. 3D like Symphonia. Platform tba (most likely PS2 imo, possibly GC, slight chance of PSP).
Odd, I thought i read that it was a confirmed project for the PSP? Did I read wrong? (I think it was from Gamespot)

The PSP Tales is Eternia. They have a little site up with the logo now.

I didn't realize MelFes was 3D -- are you sure about that?

Tales of Melfes is for the PSP. Tales of Rebirth is suppose to come with a UMD demo of it.

Magic-Box had the story up a few days ago.

Gamespot got it wrong (as did Gamefront and MagicBox). They assumed since the trailer was in 16:9 widescreen, it was a PSP game. But Namco's only released screen shot is in a normal 4:3 aspect ratio, which makes PSP rather doubtful.

Also misinformation. It's a DVD, and no platform is announced.

Damn, both of them got it wrong. Jeez. Well thanks for clearing it up.

Definitely looks 3d to me. We haven't seen the characters but the world is 3d.

From the graphics and the fact that it was bundled with the PS2 say it's either a PSP game or PS2 game, and the graphics look underwhelming for a PS2 game.

Tales graphics have always looked underwhelming for their respective platforms (except the first game). Symphonia wasn't exactly pushing GC/PS2 either.

The only official screen shot being 4:3 makes it unlikely the game's for PSP imo. I think PS2 is guaranteed at this point, but even GC is more likely than PSP.

LOL... the gamecube is more likely than the PSP... why would they bundle it with a PS2 game...

It singles out ANY other non playstation brand system.

And the game looks underwhelming even compared to Rebirth. Making it LESS likely to be a PS2 game.

P.S. Tales of Phantasia was one of the best looking SNES games ever made.

It wasn't bundled, it was given as a limited preorder item.

No, it's targets the hardcore Tales fanbase who preorders, not the casual PS2 base specifically. Namco's done cross platform promotion before even with Tales (Destiny 2 & Narikiri Dungeon 2 notably). The fact that no platform was mentioned should send a red flag up that's it's open (though PS2 is the most likely platform).

Namco's official screen discredits PSP outright though, that issue isn't really arguable (like the promotional DVD).

???

The environments look beyond anything in Rebirth... hell they look on par with Symphonia.

Which is why I specifically excluded it from "Tales graphics have always looked underwhelming for their respective platforms".

Yeah, bundling Melfis' debut with Rebirth (a PS2 game) kind of puts Gamecube out of runnings.

At this point its more likely to hit PSP rather then GC.

Because it could be multiplatform... it doesn't need to be exclusive for a video to be bundled with game regardless of the platform...

Between NA and JPN, Symphonia sold about 550k copies on GCN (see here). It hasn't been released yet in Europe either. While another 370k copies for PS2 have certainly guaranteed it for that platform, I wouldn't be surprised to see a GCN port in the near future, if for nothing other than a US/EU version.

But the official screen puts PSP out. And for the final time, it wasn't bundled.

*ding* *ding* *ding*

...actually, plenty of people assumed the Tales games would just be multiplatform following Symphonia. It's possible that western sales of Symphonia have greenlighted a GC version again in addition to PS2 (similar to western sales greenlighting Xenosaga 2 after the first sold below expectation in Japan). I still think PS2 only is likely though, Namco seems pretty lukewarm on GameCube R&D unless Nintendo's funding it directly (Star Fox, Donkey Konga, Mario Baseball).

PSP is the platform with little chance really though... unless the game's going to have big black borders on the sides. ;)

Those numbers don't include Canada, Mexico or Hong Kong. It's probably past 600k actually.

It's more like 650K for NA + Japan for ToS GC sales. (hopefully they will bring more Tales games on nintendo platforms since it has proven it can sell)

Now when ToS sold around 250K+ in the US, why don't bring more tales game over?

The problem is that Namco of Japan has already called TOS GCN a failure for failing to meet the 500k estimate they had for the game in JPN. While it's certainly made that estimate now, it required worldwide sales (which I'm sure was even higher).

All I hope for now is that Nintendo takes some action and publishes Tales of Phantasia for GBA worldwide after the positive WW TOS sales. Sure it's the worst version of the three but any English version would make me happy. Or, better yet, an NA NintendoDS version... *drools*

Not really any different from Xenosaga on PS2 though... and that got a sequel.

It's more likely Namco Hometek will release Phantasia GBA themselves now that they're restarted handheld publishing. I wouldn't minda DS version though, then they could include the PS1 cinemas and fix the various bugs.

Its good to see you again. Maybe you've been online, but I havent seen you at all. I guess you were too busy playing MGS3:P

Xenosaga was deemed a failure? Didn't know that.

I really don't care who releases it at this point so long as it comes stateside. I only fear what may result if Namco does publish it as Hometek has been known to completely butcher localizations (though they improved with Symphonia somewhat).

Also, if they had a DS version, they could implement the touch screen in the game (specifically battles), which I sincerely believe the Tales series would benefit massively from.

Yep. Look at the pic you posted and then the one I posted. Notice the drop in quality between the 2? That's because the one I posted is real time while the one you posted is a pre rendered background.

It missed targets by quite a bit (1M expected, about 450-500k sold) but it wasn't an outright failure and strong western sales greenlighted the sequel. Same goes for Symphonia GC (500k expected, about 300-350k sold).... so there's at least a chance Melfes might show up on the platform.

Most of ToR is prerendered the only thing that isn't is the overworld map, which traditionally has looked bad for most rpgs.

The PSP Tales is Eternia. That much is certain. It's likely Namco wants to get this generation of gamers up to speed with Eternia because of the new ToE Online.

To note that shot of Rebirth is old. Final version uses a different Iface. Also to note that Rebirth currently takes the cake the best looking overworld. Though it's still no visual treat like the Final Fantasies.
