Is the G8 summit getting a lot of coverage in America?

Just curious :) I was wondering if the American press was making a big deal out of it, or if it's reserved for slow news days. Or is it even less of a priority than that?

It's been getting mentioned a lot in Britian recently, almost every day actually. A lot of papers have countdowns to the G8 summit, and it's usually the main story on the news

I haven't seen much news coverage of the actual summit, just of the protests. They don't discuss the actual summit too much at least in the local news. However I have seen the protest footage nightly now.

Europeans always seem to be more interested in the G8 than Americans, although I assumed it would get more coverage due to Live 8.

Thanks for the input :) I actually expected the same thing, and that it would get a lot of coverage. There was a few American students on my degree course so we would talk about this kind of stuff quite a lot, like American media is almost always very domestic

a fair share of radio coverage on NPR

Don't worry after the Bush Administration and republican congress/senate have their say you can have your "Missing White Woman of the Month" news non-stop. Blasted NPR.

Yeah I changed to CNN once (it was an accident, I swear!) and there was thing about Aruba and a missing girl...and I didn't get it.

Is she a celebrity?
Is she a politician?
Is she a member of the military?
Is she a member of the FBI/CIA?
Does she hold information valuable to the security of the United States?
Is she an American diplomat that was stationed in Aruba?

So I watched for 10 minutes and didn't get ONE answer regarding why we should give a flying fuck.

G8's making Bush look bad, hence I'd wager FOX et al have been directed to not report on the actual summit.
