Is the Neogaf Facebook Group our unofficial graveyard?

I highly doubt I will ever get banned. Just don't say stupid stuff, show respect to (mostly) everyone, and pay attention to what gets others banned and learn from others mistakes.

haha man you guys are fucked up.

The biggest reason I don't post on here as often is because I fear I'll get the banhammer. It's a vicious cycle.
Did the same thing until I heard that juniors that get banned almost never come back. Now I'm trying to become a member before I inevitably say something stupid as hell

Seriously? Does everyone have a second account? -_-

Twitter.

Two months have to pass and a certain number of posts must be made.

Doom_bringer had like 3 other accounts after he got permed. Unfortunately for him, he's too addicted to trolling and got permd on his three other alt accounts as well.

Good fucking riddance. What makes Gaf such a fantastic forum is that all of the shitheads get banned.

- Act like a child? Ban.
- Act like a dick? Ban.
- Troll in a non-entertaining way? Ban.
- Port begging? Ban.
- Act racist, sexist, or homophobic? Ban.

Some people may complain about the harshness, but there is a reason Gaf is much cleaner than say Gamespot or even Something Awful.

Not really. *points at the Tropes versus Women thread*

Eventually the shitheads get dealt with. They get away with bad behavior and they do it again later since they get comfortable or they think they can get away with it. Eventually a mod sees this user and bam, justice.

Good point. But megathreads do tend to shield shitheads because face it no mod needs to go through that. I don't even go into those types of threads. Its amazing how people just can't grasp how some things (even to a small extent) exist.

Pretty much. Sooner a later a mod will come across them in a larger thread or they will get reported.

Something Awful has the best moderation process I've seen.

the thing is.. once your posts are noticed enough, the things for which they are able to ban you fall under a much more public microscope. they hate when that happens; to have their actions so visible to everyone. they think of you as riffraff, as a simple cog in the timepiece that they consider this forum. look up quotes, they say it themselves.

the irony in all of this is that they do it for the sake of keeping things new and fresh. in reality they're just perpetuating bad behavior by new posters.

i would create a huge bureaucracy manned by the community itself for moderation for no other reason than to have a huge bureaucracy. the mods would be the judges and the people of the forum would be the jury and a certain amount of people would vote to ban someone once their post was up for banning, but the mods would have the ultimate power to ban anyway regardless of the vote.

yes, it would be grand.

That'd be a mess.

it would be fun though. really we should just have mods make poll threads where the community decides the fate of a certain poster if that poster shows up on their secret mod radar. they probably already vote on this stuff in private anyway, why not let the community decide if a particular problem poster is banned?

See this is why we can never have our own city or secret base. Can't agree on how to govern a forum. Surely we can't govern ourselves in real life.
