Afro Samurai Coming to America
According to the Japanese Hatena message board, Gonzo Studio's Afro Samurai, originally intended to be a theatrical motion picture, will now be developed as a TV series scheduled for American broadcast in 2006 with a possible Japanese simultaneous release. Samuel L. Jackson will provide the voice of the main character.

Afrosamurai is a futuristic hero of Japanese period adventure films, created by artist Takashi Okazaki. He is a samurai, but he is also SF, so he walks along listening to his walkman, a stylish and fashion-conscious samurai with an afro hairstyle who wears bracelets and rings. The Afrosamurai figure is supported by a young designer and modeller (someone who makes the figures) of about the same age, and he really is a new style of figurine. You can change his arms to create a variety of different poses. And despite the worldwide trend against smoking, Afrosamurai is a smoker, so he comes complete with cigarettes. As a bonus, you also get an Afrosamurai ring that you can actually wear on your own finger. The head section of Afrosamurai, even though no one can see it, has the Japanese character for 'spirit' written on it. You could call this an artistic figure with a soul.
