BojTrek said:I too said "I should be able to hit Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears before work on Tuesday and get a system."
NOTHING... 9 stores between 7AM and 8:30AM... NOTHING! All sold out, too many people in line for the number of systems, signs displaying sold out...
Only 8 systems at Sears and 15 and Wal-Mart are you kidding my Microsoft...
Seriously, Fuck You! - Yes, system will probably keep rolling in... but to neglect your core X-Box owners on Day 1, it doesn't get us hyped... you already had us... it pisses us off!

I wouldn't be surprised if M$ is stockpiling for that shipment.
hype > than first day sales. first day sales are only on the first day. hype lasts through the season.-james- said:Why such a low number of consoles available for the big holiday sales weekend (black friday)? It makes no sense, you would think they would want to have a decent amount out there for such a huge shopping weekend.

but there is no such thing as a manufactured shortage, so keep moving.. keep moving.![]()

MattKeil said:And you'd be wrong. If Microsoft could have had more out there for day one, they would have. There is no reserve stock somewhere they are holding back. In fact, there was so much demand at a Best Buy in Seattle, Microsoft airlifted several hundred systems from the Zero Hour event up to Washington to prevent a near riot. If they were really holding back stock for an artificial shortage, I doubt they would have gone to the expense of hiring a helicopter on half a day's notice for a thousand mile flight, since any such stockpile would invariably be in Seattle to begin with.
The "OMG no more shipments until January!!!" stuff is absurd, though. I think most of the predictions in this thread are correct and more systems will trickle in weekly between now and Christmas.

Kung Fu Jedi said:Why would they be in Seattle to begin with? If anything, they'd be stored in a warehouse near major distribution stations, not in Seattle. It's not like Microsoft has a huge warehouse or underground bunker on their campus to store consoles in.
Exactly, if the demand is artificial why are people waiting in line at 7AM?lollerskates said:M$ paid all the people in the lines too!! there is no real demand.
the day BEFORE LAUNCH.
alexxx said:We went to several different stores this morning, and all but Costco had really pathetic stock numbers. We're talking '2' to '8' systems per store, only a few getting up close to 20.
I could have secured one from costco, but I wasn't prepared to stand for five hours with a low 30s wind chill. SO that's that!
MS did fuck this one up, though.. I have a hard time believing it's a manufactured shortage at this point.
Haleon said:Well, I was one of those people that said you'd be able to walk into a Walmart on launch day and pick one up off the shelf (eats crow), so my opinion isn't worth too much right now.
That being said, unless Microsoft is COMPLETELY retarded, you should be able to pick one up in a week or two. It's one thing to short out your product supply to create hype, and then it's another thing to seriously fuck up the distribution chain and prevent people who wish to buy your product from doing so.
I *think* Microsoft is shorting supply to create hype for Black Friday, and then I think the week after next you'll start seeing them regularly in stock.
In America, the Friday after Thanksgiving is considered "Black Friday" because it's the busiest shopping day of the year. Stores all over the country have mega sales, and people line up outside the doors at 2 in the morning waiting to get in and snatch up sale items.StRaNgE said:What is this black friday you mention??
Haleon said:You guys do realize people were waiting in lines at 7 in the morning because of all the stores posting signs that say things like:
"SUPPLY SHORTAGE"
"ONLY 10 PREORDERS GUARANTEED"
"SECOND SHIPMENT"
etc...
On all previous launches, if you pre-ordered, you were guaranteed to receive a unit. I can't say with any degree of certainty if the shortages are manufactured for hype or if there are legitimate problems making units, but either way, MS fucked up the launch. There's no way any reasonable person could deny that. When an EB stores takes in 50+ plus preorders and is only given 20 units, that's MS's fault. When a Walmart gets 4 systems total, that's MS's fault. If there is a supply shortage for a forseeable future, it's not because the demand is just so "OMG GOTTA HAVE IT HOW AMAZINGLY AWESOME" it's because MS isn't shipping enough to cover the initial hardcores that purchase things on launch.
