Is this the biggest movie drought ever?

i would say so, the economy slammed into a brick wall
Nah, the economy was told to stay indoors or you are a grand parent killing racist.

Blazing Saddles
Chinatown
The Conversation
Dog Day Afternoon
Jaws
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Carrie
Marathon Man
Network
The Omen
Rocky
Taxi Driver
Annie Hall
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
Kentucky Fried Movie
Star Wars
Dawn Of The Dead
Alien
Apocalypse Now

The 70s were fucking awesome.
A man of culture and a man of the people.

Why is anyone taking the 2008 comment seriously?

Again, shouldn't take his 70s comment seriously. Brap has his particular narrow view of what's good and anything outside the time period, genre, etc. is utter trash. To some degree, I think he's trolling, but such commitment to the bit is worrying.

yes but imo it was needed. the movie industry has gotten bloated and fat. endless reboots and remakes. just shoveling out trash with IP stamped on it.

it's a shame when you think about the 80s, the decade everyone is constantly mining now, and how many glorious NEW THINGS were created. compare that to now. it's pathetic.

is there any filmmaker who could come up with a new "Gremlins" today? or a new "Ghostbusters"? no. the imagination is not there. the respect for the past is not there. all we have is illiterate postmodernists who get paid to shuffle around the same old signifiers.

tbh it feels like we've been in a movie drought for a good 20 years at this point.

He is as his master, Tekashi 69, created him.

Home video (VCR) caused such an explosion of entertainment.

That Speilberg / Zemeckis / Dante / Donner grouping is hard to find these days.

Tales from the Crypt. Check out the talent that worked on it.

Not to mention Heavy Metal was born in the 70's, what a fucking great decade.

And I was also born in the 80's.

Yes I am sorely missing my 3 comic book movies this Summer where a nobody lusts for a girl whos not interested, gets a random super power, that girl just happens to get kipnapped, hero saves her and then in the sequel he questions his mental state and whether if being with that girl is wise as it'll put her in danger and then the third movie where there is 2 bad guys and they're both incompetent but they make u think the hero will lose but he finds strength from his dead dog to win the day.

Yep, I miss comic book movies, as you can see. No sarcasm, honest.

Oh, fuck me. And you. 1917 was fucking brilliant.

We have a sunday movie every week and we watch a lot of good stuff, you're not doing enough research.

It's alright Netflix will provide us with second rate imitations from now to eternity.

The only people that give a shit about the 70s were people that were alive back then. It's not the peak of anything except shitty fashion and porn with a plot.
What? Come on man, I thought you appreciated old films!

Absolutely loved Parasite, Oldboy is on the plex server but I haven’t got round to it yet.
Only know the first one, was a bit not-surey about the story, but the cinematography was amazing and when I read up the story it made way more sense. Watch it first, then learn, should you have troubles.

Yeah idk. I just picked a random year out of my ass. I do think cinema went to basically complete shit in the 2000s though.

Brap has his particular narrow view of what's good and anything outside the time period, genre, etc. is utter trash. To some degree, I think he's trolling, but such commitment to the bit is worrying.
True. Also lol @ 40s+. Zoomers and their fucking talkies. Watch a silent picture once in a while.

What? Come on man, I thought you appreciated old films!
I basically only watch stuff from the 70s-early 90s. 70s still weren't that great.

With the quality and the lectures in movies for the last half a decade, I really haven't even noticed the drought until this thread, tbh.

There's enough content out there for you to spend a full lifetime watching but you want more CGI Paul Walker? Bruh.

I'm watching video nasties on Amazon Prime rn, the 80s was so different. Watch some tribal Amazon dude kill a real turtle and eat it then see some titties. It's all good.

It just means that 2021's gonna be a packed as fuck year and people will come around the fact that great cinema isn't dead, just ignored.

Tenet, Dune, The Green Knight, Antlers, First Cow, The French Dispatch, The Many Saints Of Newark, Candyman... and that's not including the auteur-directed franchise stuff like No Time To Die (Fukunaga), Halloween Kills (Green), The Batman (Reeves), & Thor 4 (Waititi).

In the meantime, now would be a good time to subscribe to this since theaters are in a coma. You know, catch up: https://www.criterionchannel.com/
