Is Xbox 360 HD optional or not?

Then why are there pictures of the X360 without it? (e.g. the pictures with only the sliver slab where the LCD screen usually is...) Maybe so that when you remove the hard drive, you can place the sliver slab thing in its place as to avoid dust getting in there? (I know this is stretching, hence my believe that it is not standard in 100% of all units)

I predict there will be two versions shipped, one with, and one without at a reduced price.

Then why is there such negativity towards the console? Because of some shitty PDZ screens?

It has really good specs, builting HDD and wireless controllers, and if announced, BC will be icing on the cake. I remember the bashing it got because the HDD wouldn't be included, and when it's included noone seems to care about it?

Dude, I wasn't bashing it, just trying to identify if the HDD is really going to be included. I hope it is, but I'll be buying it at launch regardless.

This is GAF brah. People like to exaggerate the negatives.
The same shit will happen to Nintendo or Sony if they have something that's even a tiny bit underwhelming. I doubt we'll see as many posts about it as you do towards MS but it'll happen.

It is also a 2.5" hard drive (like the one iPod uses, which is why it's only 20GB) and it explains why it won't ever has as much storage as the 3.5" drives you have for computers.

Nothing is set in stone by now. Microsoft tries to avoid losing as much money as last time. If they cant sell the x360 with HD at $299 they probably do different versions.

hard drive is removable probably because as others have said there will be a model without it. I still think the $360 w/HDD and $299 wo/HDD sounds possible

About the only thing that is certain at this point is that there will be A MODEL that comes with the HDD.

They havent announced the pricing yet so we dont know for sure that its included.

It is definitely (according to the specs) Upgradable and removable though.

Listen to this man

I think it depends on what sony does, if the PS3 has a HDD then all the xbox360 will have the HDD, otherwise it will be optional.

iPods use 1.8" and 1" drives. Capacities up to 60 GB with the 1.8" drives and 6 GB with the 1".

Notebook computers use 2.5" drives as does the Mac mini. They go up to 100 GB I think, maybe 120 GB?

I think you're right, my mistake.

But they are more expensive then 3.5" and will always have less storage then the 3.5" versions.

20 GB removable HD comes standard, eh? Cool.

However, one wonders why the hell it would even need memory cards, then. If you need to transport saves to someone else's 360, can't you just take the HD? What's the incentive to buy a memory card if you get an HD with the system that will easily hold every save you need and is also transportable?

The hard drive is removable so that you can upgrade it and also use it as a big ass memory card.

But what the hell are the memory card units for then if the HDD is standard and protable?

Edit: Stupid Shig stealing my thoughts from 2 mins in the past.

Even if you can put your HD in your friend's system, that only gets you access to your saves. What is your friend going to do? He needs his characters too, if you plan to play together.

maybe thats the standard, but you can get a bigger one and switch it out if you want.

Possibly. I remember someone (Allard?) saying on the MTV special that larger hard drives will be forthcoming if demand warrants.

Personally, with the Media Center streaming capabilities, I don't see the desire for a larger HD. Why not just stream the media files from your PC instead of copying them to the 360's HD?

Even if the media is streamed - the HD will still be used for updates, downloadable maps, etc.

Memory cards will be used for portability to other systems

Glad MS went with a single SKU, even if it means we lost the 40GB HD. I'm sure larger drives will be released later on though.

I can see future drives not only being bigger, but having a screen (iPod-like).

Having the drive built in is a huge plus - seriously the best news of the night. Really increases the odds of BC, as well.
