IT - Official Trailer 1

Is this a good movie even for a non-horror fan? Not really into the genre but the buzz and hype have me... intrigued.
The best thing about the story of IT - besides the horror and vivid setting - is that the core of the narrative is the friendship and growing bond of the kids. It's as much a coming of age/"kids on an adventure" story as it is a disturbing unsettling horror story. If the movie retains that, it'll be more than just a good horror movie

If you're intrigued, see it. I thought it was decent, but everyone I saw it with seemed to be a lot more impressed than I was. There's nearly as much humor as there is horror in it.
That is surprising TBH since there's almost no comedy in the trailers, tv spots and clips.

That's often the case with genre films. The Force Awakens is pretty damn funny, but the trailers don't even hint at it, as an example. They sell the epic space opera angle.

I'm dying to see this but I'll probably be seeing it alone as no one I live nearby likes horror movies. My wife can't even know that I'm watching one in the house while she's asleep because it freaks her out.

That's a bit of a bummer. I was hoping for a film that filled me with dread and terrified me. There's so few of those now with everything trying to copy those ghost train horrors like The Conjuring. I want a horror to make me scared out of my wits.

That's my bail out button. See y'all in the review thread after I see the movie.
Yep.

Why not both? The story of It is as much a Spielbergian adventure as it is a grisly disturbing horror tale.

That first one would totally change the second movie.

Oh and someone described the Georgie scene in a bit more detail. Oh lawd, that's savage.

Haven't clicked that link, but from what I've picked up on from the various trailers and the early impressions, I'm expecting this to be true to the spirit of the book, not necessarily a direct adaptation. Which I am totally ok with. I'm certainly expecting some sizable deviations, plot-wise.

So it's a week from now for this to release.

I'm pretty excited for it, watching every trailer and most tv spots and clips. I normally watch horror movies at home but this one looks to be worth going to the theater for!

Same here, last horror movie I watched in theater was The Witch

I'm probably as excited for this film as any in the past decade or so. Up there with TFA. The book is dear to me and a big part of my growing up, but as soon as this pivoted to looking good I was surprised how much I started looking forward to it.

My daughter and I are going next Friday (we'd do the preview but she's in school by then).

If it's as good as it's supposed to be, then you should check it out sugarless of genre.

At the heart of the book is a very good story about friendship and growing up, set in a vividly drawn small town. That's the foundation. The horror elements are woven in. If the film mirrors the book at all - and it's sounding like they got that right - then it's going to be a good movie. Might be a good gateway horror film.

Thanks, I think I'll check it out opening weekend.

I may ask my friend who is terrified of clowns to go see it with me. I just won't tell her there's a clown in this.

It also has some of the best descriptions of the fear and lack of understanding that adults have for kids. Bill ruminates on this as they are buying the materials to make the silver bullets and it's an amazing set of thoughts on how we view kids and how they view us.

Describes me perfectly. I keep telling my sister who is a huge Star Wars fan that this movie is basically Star Wars for me -- she only kinda gets it, but that's enough. Very excited to see it on opening day.

I read a article on one of those Zergnet sites or something that apparently according to critics it's really quite good. They say it stays true to the original while still bringing new and interesting things, it's actually scary and so on. All of this tells me very little though, gotta see it for myself. Which i am.

This wednesday at midnight in the cinema, yes sir! Please be good. I'm ready for a great horror. Been a while. Get Out was the last one, if we consider thar horror.

Friday can't come soon enough. Hopefully by seeing first screening that morning I'll miss all the giggling asshole teenagers who will make a Friday night screening unbearable.

I know someone who was so scared of the first movie, that he couldn't continue his work and went home after simply hearing that the remake is being made.

Wow, I never thought much of the original miniseries, but all these anecdotes make it sound like it was the The Exorcist for the 90s generation. I've only ever heard of a horror movie having lasting effects like that from parents and family members who saw The Exorcist when they were young

Only bad thing about Part 2 is Andy mentioned in interviews that he'd like to include new childhood flashback scenes if the kids haven't grown up, but damn watching some of those cast interviews they're already getting older haha. Pretty sure Stan's voice dropped an octave.

A little kick in the nuts might work but the girl already looks like a lady in some shots of this movie alone.

It's held up as the movie that will make you afraid of clowns. At least that's what I believed growing up.

I remember being disappointed by how the tameness of the IT movie/miniseries (compared to the book). And I''ve always been the biggest sissy on the planet when it comes to supernatural horror.

Damn, just booked a ticket to see this in about 4 hours at the British Film Institute on Southbank. If anyone is in London and wants to see it, there are 5 seats left!

If anyone has any specific questions or things you'd like me to answer, let me know and I'll do my best once it's over. Please bear in mind though that I only saw the TV mini series and have never read the book so I won't be able to comment on changes made to the book or questions of that nature.

Yay! Just 2 more days till I see this! Hooray for Australia getting it 2 days before the US does!

I've already got a group of friends to go with that are just as keen to see this on opening day as I am. We're all gonna make a night of it and have dinner out and then see it.
