Illmatic sounds like someone is overflowing your ears with dust sometimes, stopped getting plays in my playlist a long time ago. IWW was a way more put together and actually mastered album. I don't care what people say even the "remastered" versions of Illmatic sounded bad. Content-wise I feel Nas executed what he wanted to say more properly on IWW than Illmatic AND production was a lot better imo, I don't get the hate for the production on IWW. Illmatic still in my Top 3 Nas albums BUT it's not number 1 doe.

Only good songs on It Was Written are The Message and Take it in blood. Take it in Blood only has one good verse which is the first one the rest of the verses and songs are horrible.

Not even close. The Message, I Gave You Power and If I Ruled The World are quality, fuck it I'll even throw in Silent Murder and it still not close. I'll rather listen to The Genesis than most of the songs on IWW.

Illmatic is so masterfully produced, so lyrically intricate, that you can almost taste the cracked linoleum tile in the project hallway Nas scribbled lyrics in while listening to it. That level of authenticity is unparalleled...not to mention that the lyrics are still excellent - and not in some backpack rappity-rap supa dupa hoopa type way, but in an actual "damn he ripped that shit" way.
It was so perfect that it almost resulted in Nas derailing his own career trying to find a way to match, surpass or evolve sonically past it for commercial fame.
It's so perfect that Nas' career is marked almost entirely by his deliberate production choices to AVOID this sound. Large Professor, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Q-Tip, etc...should've recorded almost everything he ever made after that, since they are perfect together. Instead, he's recording shit with Ron Browz and goddamn Chris Webber.

Illmatic hands down was responsible for bringing back the new york hip hop scene and birthed so many rappers to this day. Its one of the most heavy influential albums of all time. It was written was good but not one song touching the essence of The World Is Yours....even If I Ruled The World which was a dope track.

To this day, I can't understand why people prop up Black Girl Lost as some incredibly progressive conscious song. Nas is the GOAT, but that song is ridiculous in it's execution and messaging.
