Italian cuisine is the world's most popular

I'm not surprised, although I'm surprised at how high the numbers are: 84% as an average worldwide. The Spanish particularly like it (94%), the French (93%) and the British (91%). Chinese and then Japanese are second and third. Finnish cuisine basically comes out dead last. Are people just trying lutefisk? :) The rest can't be that bad.

Italians unsurprisingly aren't very keen on the cuisine of other countries, with the exception of Spanish and Greek food. Chinese food and French food are liked by 60%. Most of them dislike Southeast Asian food, northeast European food, and Northern European food the most, including British food.

Americans like American food the best (91%), followed by Italian food, then Mexican, then Chinese. That seems right.

The Japanese are the pickiest eaters, although they too like Italian food.

It's a fun chart.

I'm not a fan of Italian food. It's just so bland, and seems to be heavily infused with pasta, salads, bread and tomato this and that.

On the plus side, if you make it at home or are a restaurant making it, the food is cheap to make. It's mostly carbs.

The best thing is pizza, but I'm pretty sure most people who like pizza don't even like the real authentic stuff you get there, and have never even had real Italian pizza. Instead, they'd rather pound back a deep dish triple pepperoni American version thinking that's what you get in Rome.

To be fair to the cuisines, it seems the ones that are most popular in the world seem to get the most positive reviews. So I think over time people like it.

Looking at the bottom of the list, how many of you (unless you live in the region) have been to a Peruvian, Norwegian, Finnish or Morrocan place to eat?

Correction home made Italian is the best. I've subscribed to Hello Fresh during COVID and I now love it but I'd never set foot in an Olive Garden.

Peruvian chicken places are all over near me. Cheap and good. Wouldn’t be on the bottom of the list of more of the people surveyed were exposed to it.

European food in general is just by the far the best. 90% of "ethnic" cuisine is just brown slop with spices in it.

Not surprising. Italian gets a little "samey" for me but it's a great go to for cooking for a family. I'd say we cook regularly with at least a dozen cuisines/influences at home. So much variety out there. My brother and sister both married Italians and it's 99% Italian food whenever you visit or celebrate something, generally Italians don't venture out into other cuisines much.

I feel like I've never really tried real Italian cuisine since it's always the Americanized versions of their pasta and pizza dishes. And Italian dishes are way more than those two.

Got to try a Neopolitan pizza made by a real Italian chef. Man... it was amazing. The difference between that and the standard pie you get from a regular pizza place is night and day.

Fuck outta here with that. Getting a tub of Del Taco and Taco Bell beans and tossing it in some tupperware doesn't make it ethnic.

Thats dumb as shit. Is Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Lebanese, Mexican, American just brown slop?

Maybe try more foods than your local corner Indian shit hole and thinking "well that's the cuisine of the whole world"

I have. Still think it's mostly brown slop. Pretty much all ethnic cuisine is "hey guys, let's put some brown slop on a pile of rice!".

If you're British, no you haven't. The food in your country is awful and there is no variety. Chinese, Indian, Italian and British. Thats it. And nothing is fresh

Looks like a chart of picky eating Indeed, considering the question is "if you have tried food from that country, did you like it ?".
I have tried many dishes from all over the world, some I liked better than others, but the worst I came out with was "eh, it's nothing special", never "ew that dish is just bad, so are all the others on the table". So my answer for all the countries would be "yes".

90% of italian food is pretty universally familiar and simple to make

so long as you have flour, eggs, olive oil, the quintissential italian cheeses, tomatoes, oregano, basil and a few other italian seasonings you cover most of the grounds in terms of the "simpler" "italian" dishes

that opens the door to pizzas and thousands of shapes of pastas

there is more complexity to italian food but the spaghetties, the pizzas, the stuffed pastas, those are really the kind of things people go for

if you look at the ingredients in more latin american dishes and especially asian dishes (chinese, indian, etc.) it can be extremely vast and unfamiliar

A few things:

1. That's not brown slop. It's meat, potatoes, vegetables and Yorkshire pudding with gravy on it. This is brown slop. Most ethnic cuisine looks like the result of some dude taking a squat after drinking from the Ganges. The absolute state of it.

2. British food is amazing. It's not to your taste because you're used to turdlike ethnic slop. Same way a man raised on Hip Hop probably isn't going to appreciate a Bruckner symphony. But British food is just objectively better and healthier than all of this imported turd world slime. I grew up eating alot of this ethnic gruel (kebabs, curries etc) and was crippled with stomach problems. Switching to a traditional British diet fixed me right up.

The cuisine is way more varied than you make it seem, but from experiences outside of Italy you are right.
It's dang hard to get good italian food, even then it won't resemble what you would actually get in the country, especially pasta tends to be very hard to replicate. The kitchen of a pizzeria/steakhouse around the corner is full of southern italian cooks and their fish is overcooked, the pasta and sauce is lifeless and the pizza, which they should be proud of, is sub par. No pride, but the customers gobble it up.

Non-European. The kind of turdlike brown slop that has been replacing our native cuisine for the past few decades.

Different people, different tastes I guess.

For me personally, British food is the worst of any cuisine out there. As in, if I was close to starving and you'd offer me some of those lardy bangers, I'd still only use them to whack your face with 'em. Even Wellington -- I have been to Ramsay's Restaurant. It felt like chewing on mushroom concentrate.
Closely followed my French food. I never got the hype for it. French pastries and bread is great, I've yet to taste any meat-based French dish that I'd like though.

Italian is amazing, absolute staple! Though in terms of variety, Asian dishes take the trophy for me. Especially in terms of overall flavor intensity, and being able to bulk up on veggies that actually really taste great.

Nah, not a fan of Italian food.

Well, to be fair I do eat pasta sometimes but it's not something I can't get enough of. I get in the mood for it now and then but if I could never eat it again I wouldn't mind.

Also, not really into Pizza. Always felt sick after eating one and I've tried from many different places. Just not my thing.

Now Chinese....that's my shit! Love it! I could eat it quite happily for the rest of my life.

1. Chinese
2. British
3. Indian
4. American
5. Thai
6. Japanese
7. Italian.

We get it, you hate Indian people. You can't expect to be taken seriously with posts like this.

British food is healthier, post photos of a full English breakfast in which everything is fried. Fried fish and fried chips. Beef wrapped with a butter crust.

Make an effort, mate.

Italian for sure. I've yet to see someone turn their nose up at a well cooked Italian meal.

Best part about living in Melbourne, Australia. I doubt there is another city in the world with the breadth and quality of food from almost any corner of the world. We are seriously spoilt for choice.

Pity that this COVID-19 lockdown might see some of these eateries struggle to survive.

Then you went to the wrong places. London has a fuck ton of variety to choose from you just got to know where to go. If you went Angus steakhouse/wing way I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but bad food in London ain’t one.

Gotta say that back when I drove down to Florence to meet a girl, we went to this small family restaurant in one of the side streets and the Ragù alla bolognese is still one of the best things I have ever eaten.
That being said, that was not the most exciting thing I have eaten that day...

Italy is awesome.

...hate me...
Finnish food is not bad per se, it's just boring and practical. And sometimes apparently repulsive but actually not too bad under the surface.

One of the most controversial items is mämmi.

kymppimammi_0007.jpg

This sort of dessert, and typically consumed by Easter time, may look like chocolate fudge, but has nothing of chocolate. It's like a very rich, dense rye molasses. It tastes like fermented rye. Many people can't stand it, others can tolerate it a bit, others can eat a lot. I say, give me a little bowl of it, smother it with vanilla sauce, and watch me go to town. Can also be served with milk or cream. And boy, does this food make your gut work properly or what.

You can like traditional British food and “Ethnic” food. Both can be great. If you’re only going to judge it by the standards of the dodgy kebab shop down the road then you are excluding yourself from so much great food.
