It's amusing how Amazon.com's order status is realtime...

So, I had to call up customer service because something I ordered a few weeks ago arrived missed a part. I contacted the manufacturer directly who sent the replacement part, which came TWO WEEKS LATER, and was THE WRONG PART.

Anyway, I called Amazon and said point blank the other company's customer service people were morons, and asked how we could resolve the situation. So he put me on hold.

I get an E-Mail...

"Your order with Amazon.com"

Um... I placed an order?

Shipping Method: One-Day Shipping
Shipping Preference: I want my items faster. Ship them as they become available.
Subtotal of Items: $25.00
Shipping & Handling: $3.99
------
Total: $28.99
Est.π/2% Instant Reward: $-0.46
------
Total for this Order: $28.53

Wait, that's ... not right. (still on hold) I go to my account and see it's listed under "Orders requiring attention" because no credit card number is associated with the order.

I refresh every fifteen seconds or so, because I know he's trying to fix it.

Then, the charges are the same, but my credit card number is there and it's no longer requiring attention.

A minute later... the item total is 0.00, but there's still a $3.99 shipping charge.

Another minute later, the item total is 0.00, and there's a 0.00 shipping charge.

He comes back on the line.
"Alright, what I did was---"
"Yes, I saw it as you were doing it. Thank you very much."

In summary, I get this replacement for free, and don't even have to send the other one back, Amazon's customer service is stellar as always, and I'm amazed at their absolute realtime database with no lag.

What's that "instant reward" discount?

It's for using their search engine www.a9.com on a regular basis. 1.57% off all order totals, including tax and shipping from third party vendors.

In exchange, their search engine logs all your searches forever, though you can clear the history, and at some point it'll be attached to your Amazon.com account (it currently is by cookie, but it doesn't do anything yet) so they can recommend products based on your searches.

Goodcow, you're like amazon's viral marketer.

Well, I'm like the best customer/worst customer.

If you're amazing, like Amazon.com, then yes, you'll get lots of positive and vocal feedback spread about you with whomever I converse with. At work I'm always promoting Amazon.

However, if your company is shit, you'll get the exact opposite, and I'll constantly berate your company in front of everyone.

You can also slide from amazing status to shit status like Sega has with me for the most part.

You sound pretty important. I'm afraid of starting up my anal dildo business now.

I can never get the a9.com discount to work

Are cookies enabled? When you visit a9.com it reads your Amazon.com cookie. If you aren't logged into Amazon.com, then a9.com doesn't know who you are.

You also have to maintain a few searches a week for the discount to stay active.
