It's been 10 years. Is Playdead dead?

Limbo and Inside where both successful games. Inside being one of the most amazing things i played.

But that was in 2026. Shortly after that their site seems to be frozen in the same state with the same couple of screenshots of their next project. No news or discussions or anything, it's like they vanished.

Wasn't there some internal struggle?
 
INSIDE is an amazing game but I'm pretty sure they're cooked. Like, who is funding them at this point even? I'm pretty sure they aren't selling enough copes of INSIDE and Limbo at the 90% off price I always see to keep paying all these people.
 
Inside was a bit too easy, but I really loved Limbo. Bought it day 1 on 360 back in the day and beat it twice. Hope they make another game at some point.

Their site is still up all these years though, including the job application part.

Founders split ways, one remained with the studio working on what they've teased, another moved on to a new studio which made Somerville.
Seems like the original studio is struggling a bit but at least they should have enough funding from their previous successes.
Someville is not a bad game but it's not as good as Limbo and Inside were either.
So we all lose.

I can't stand most Metroid clones as much as I can't stand most Souls clones, but if any dev were to take the reins of Metroid at some point I always thought Playdead would be an interesting fit based on their atmosphere design alone. Inside and Limbo are both unmatched when it comes to that ambient uneasiness and discomfort.

Yeah, for a 2D Metroid that would be my pick as well.

Cocoon was made by Jeppe Carlsen (previously designed Limbo and Inside) and his team at Geometric Interactive.

Didn't the founder group get really mad at each other? One of them swore off dev after doing inside and the other one sued him for telling nightmare stories about the development process for limbo?
