It's getting to be that time. Your favorite Christmas movie?

Scrooged is one of my least favourites actually, I love A Christmas Carol and who doesn't love Murray? But something about that movie just doesn't feel like the holidays to me.

I would say A Christmas Carol, followed by Home Alone, then Christmas Vacation

Obligatory - DH is not a christmas movie, to quote myself from another thread:

I never put Die Hard on during the holidays. It being a Christmas movie feels like a more recent bugmanism - "Fuck yeah the best Christmas movie is the one with guns and splosions!" Sure, it is set during Christmas time, and you see a few Christmas trees here and there, and hear a Christmas tune a few times, but the holidays are basically completely unnecessary for the plot. When John references the Christmas party, the yuppie cokehead clarifies that the reason for the party at the Nakatomi building was half because they just closed a huge business deal. If that were the entire pretext for the party, the movie doesn't change at all.

Elf is pretty good. I also like a lot of those old black & white films from the golden age of cinema.

But favorite is probably Christmas Story. And if you like the movie, check out the books. They're even better (and not all Christmas stuff).

I find that movie and especially the sequel incredibly depressing holiday movies
I sense a pattern here. You don't care for the darker holiday movies lol. That's cool. Scrooged is the only one I rewatch regularly. Bad Santa is a once every few years thing. I honestly forget it had a sequel. Probably a good thing.

I like ones that make you feel good about family and the holidays. Scrooged is not the worst in that regard but there's something about the overall aesthetic and plotting that I don't enjoy, I've only seen it a couple times.

Have you seen the Jim Carrey version of "A Christmas Carol"? I dig it.

I have not actually, I should watch it this year. I typically watch all the ones I enjoy during the week before Christmas, then on Christmas Eve I watch the black and white version of A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sim.

I like quite a few Christmas movies. Unfortunately Christmas is literally cancelled here in Maryland. My family is almost entirely liberal so holed up in their homes terrified. Thanksgiving, nope. Thanks China!

Sonic Zombie Origins.

Either that or this Christmas movie of a old couple trying to escape christmas and failing(sorry, can't remember the name).

I need to get around to watching that version fully. My father was a big fan of it.

Bad Santa 1 and 2
A Christmas Story
Home Alone 1 and 2
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
Jingle All The Way
Die Hard
The Nightmare before Christmas

Jack Frost (yep, the one with Michael Keaton, it's a straight up guilty pleasure. Same with "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa" and the Santa Clause move with Tim Allen)

Harry Potter 1 and 2, maybe 3 (they have a strong Christmas vibe for a good portion of the movies)

Confession. I've never seen It's a Wonderful Life. I probably should.
All makes sense why your tag is "basic bitch" now.

Do yourself a favour and watch it this year! An all-time great.

I'd like to add Arthur Christmas and The Polar Express to this thread. Two charmingly feel-good movies.

I also enjoyed Christmas Chronicles in more recent years. Kurt Russell is the perfect Santa.

It's awesome dude. I saw it at the Redford Theater here in Detroit. Really old theater where they have a live organ player who rises from the ground during intermission and everything

Anyway so after intermission (I think?) they bring out this frail old bag and shes like "I was the baby in this movie!" and we all applauded at the fact she was still alive.

Good times. Awesome movie

Die Hard.

Although since Bruce Willis said it's not a Christmas movie, some honourable mentions are:

The Snowman
Home Alone
Santa Claus: The Movie

It's super dated and, well, wonderful! It's not Christmas till the town saves George and everyone watching blubs.

People think is all sap, but the main thrust of it is kind of occultish and creepy.

ZuZu. Karolyn Grimes. I've met her, she is 80 now. The girl in the picture I posted. She signed an autograph for my mom as "ZuZu Bailey."

Why doesn't Hollywood produce more Christmas movies? The country is thirsty to watch and rewatch decent ones every 12 months.

Hollywood is morally and creatively bankrupt, and there's only so many possible holiday centric story ideas. New Christmas movies tend to be less about traditional enjoyment of the holiday and more about cultural subversion - Bad Santa, 4 Christmases, A Bad Moms Christmas, etc.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is probably my favorite.

A Wish for Wings That Work is pretty awesome and hasn't been mentioned yet.
I also really like It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street 1940s version, A Christmas Carol George C Scott version.

Is there a story behind this?
I can't say for certain. I thought I heard one of the henson kids thought the song was to dark for the munchkins after they looked at it again. Should be on youtube. "The love is gone" should be the name.

Edit: Found it.
