Ok, Suggest me a Good Window Air conditioner unit.

Not neccisarily actual unit (unless you are using one that u think is that great) but rather what are the best brands for these things.

I am really looking for quiet and efficient units.

so any recommendations/buying tips?

I recommend the General Electric ASH08FDS1. It's made to cool an approx. 15x20 room, if I recall correctly, and my room is 12x14. I just wanted it to cool a little faster. :) Thermostat works great; it's very accurate and maintains the temperature very well. It's fairly quiet. I don't have much to compare to, but I assume it's probably one of the quieter window units you can get.

SAVE THE ENVIORNMENT.

GET A VORNADO FAN.
Honeywell fans all the way.

I bought my little Samsung 5,800 BTU unit last summer and just put it back in today. It works well for my studio apartment (that's probably the key), doesn't use too much juice and it's not very loud. I keep it on all the time and it only adds about $6-8 each month to my electric bill.

fuck fans!

this fan isnt helping me much on the top floor of my building.

and DCX yea i heard, but it depends on the BTU of the AC.

Don't spare money for something loud.

I'm in these old apartments during summer classes, and they put in a new air conditioning unit. I must be Maytag's absolute rock bottom unit because it's really loud and doesn't cool that well.

I had to buy ear plugs today because my ears hurt. It's on all the time. If I turn it off, it's like 85 in 5 minutes.

I slept only 2.5 hours last night because it was so damn hot. If I turned on the fan, the sound of it kept me from sleeping. Without it on, I sweated so much I couldn't sleep. I was semi normal in class, but once I went to work, I was done. Thank the lord my manager left early tonight.

Fixed2BeBroken, I would go with any Sharp model. They might be a bit expensive, but they work great and last forever. I've had mine for six years and it still works as good as the day I got it.

I started another thread that didn't get any response.

In window is not an option for me, The central AC still doesn't work despite being "fixed" several times by the aparment manager.

What about a "swamp cooler" evaporative fan?

Isn't there legal recourse for a landlord not maintaining your AC? Weren't you promised working AC when you signed the lease?
