All those rules... AND you get to pay to play every month? Wow.

Glad I couldn't be bothered with MMORPGs. I've seen fewer rules and regulations for minimum wage jobs-- and you don't have to pay to work there.

You just have to find ways around the filter, like Weadsmoaker or Toakaleefyroach. I don't have WoW, but I assume these would pass the automated process until somebody narcs on you.

its cause its funny

sounds like a waste of $15 if you can't use the name you want and it's not even one of their dedicated 'roleplaying' servers... you should put your money where you wallet is, and not in theirs...

I approve of ridiculous naming, I got a kick out of riding past people named Notatoomah and Beatupeverything on Midgard in FFXI, but you need to be a little more creative, even with crazy shit, Fixed. :p

yea but i had a concept.

id have fattyfatshoe the dwarf....gangstahoe the hu..and bigheadhoe the gnome.

then the greenpimp or something like that as the orc.

this is possible only in wow or probably pso tho cause of fast leveling compared to other mmos where the grind can be long as hell and having 4 characters would just be ridiculous

Fixed2BeBroken said:
thats funny you bring up EQ2 because during the discussion on the wow server, a guy whispered me and told me that EQ2's name policy is alot more leniant and he has characters with names after narcotic drugs.

I dunno, maybe it is more lenient, but I sure see a lot fewer retards running around. Maybe it's just the b.kiddies.

Running into a Gangstamama, or Pooflinger is like a giant, flashing warning sign that says, "I'M FUCKING RETARDED. DON'T GROUP WITH ME."

DING, avoid these people like the plague for the most part.

Those names.....
are really fucking stupid

What kind of stuff did they offer up as alternatives, Fixed? Generic, LOTR-esque fanatasy stuff?

Yeah, I'm not on a RP server on EQ2 and I don't see many "bad" names. There are a few "stupid" names, but they usually make you laugh.

I've seen far more bad/stupid names on the RP server I play on in WoW.

Bingo. Granted, I didn't think I could get far with "KKDowning", (Judas was taken; ostensiably by an earlier Priest). It's temporary, so in a few days my guy should be Rostislav, Pavel, or Vasek, (we need more Slavic in Fantasy).

I hope Fixed2BeBroken doesn't get a dog anytime soon. He'll probably name it BigBitchInDaHauz41815 or something

I always knew fantasy was missing something key but couldn't quite put my finger on it.

i guess.

i find it funny, thats what matters. but ah well, whatever.

It's still fucking stupid. At least be witty about it- spell it so it can have the same pronounciation.

"Gainestaho" would probably go through without a second thought.

yea cause obviously id want to pronounce that whole thing everytime i called out to it.

no, id probably name it "killer"

Fixed2BeBroken said:
so yea, I name my character Gangstahoe and another character BigheadHoe then I was gonna make a dwarf later FattyFatsHoe etc

i was just gonna have a bunch of hoes.

but blizzard wasnt having that I guess.

and thats understandable.....

they change the name of gangstahoe to some stupid crap. and said i could give them 5 suggestions if i didnt like the name they gave me and i did.

So instead of hoe....i did gangstachick, gangstamama etc.

stuff like that...stuff that wasnt derrogatory.

the whole reason i had gangsta in the name was cause the character i had looked like a bad/mean chick and i wanted to boost her unarmed and run around beating things up with just my bare fists.....now "thats gangsta"

but evidently gangstachick, gangstamama is INAPPROPRIATE AS WELL!

wtf?

funny, cause i see some guy with a name like "turbosatan" running around....i guess THATS not inappropriate.

HAIL SATAN-MUCH?!

ugh.

wow makes me say wow, how im paying lots of money for a game that make my pockets go wow yet i cant have the name I want.
The biggest peace of shit I`ve ever read.
Who the hell calles his fantasy-"hero"in a FANTASY GAME "Gangsta....."??
Well, maybe you're just a hoe!

There are a lot of posts on the official forums about stuff like this:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=563776&p=1&tmp=1#post563776
Dwarf named Tower had his named changed, and then his guild member named Blacknose stood up for Tower and someone reported him and he got his name changed.

There was also another post from a Dwarf (or was it Gnome?) Rogue named Crafty who had his name changed, but that post was deleted from what I can tell.

Just name your character Kitanai Yarima, Fixed, it has a somewhat similar meaning to what you originally wanted, and I doubt the automated name detector would notice it, and unless WoW GMs speak decent Japanese they won't notice either.

For the kids at home, "kitanai yarima" = dirty slut :)

Mama Smurf said:
You can't be called Crafty? Jesus. That's actually a good name.

Still trying to find the post, but it looks like they deleted it. Very shocking as Crafty is a perfect Rogue name. My jaw hit the floor when I read the post last night.

I can sort of get on board with keeping everything within the fantasy setting, but restricting names like that is pathetic. Maybe they should read some fantasy beyond Tolkien and his trillion clones.

Steven Erikson would be a good place to start. His Malazan series has character names ranging from Whiskeyjack and Fiddler all the way through to Anomander Rake and Itkovian and guess what? They all fit!

Im I the only one that thinks Turbosatan is the greatest name ever? What could be more evil than the dark lord himself? The dark lord doing evil at turbo speed.. thats what.

So If you can't have a "racial/ethnic conotation" - I guess having a name like "BlackWizard" or "RedRogue" would be bad since Black and Red would both potentially be offensive?

I appreciate their attempt to keep the game under control... But those rules are so broad that any variety of names could fall victim to them. Can someone please explain a name that does fit?

Some Chinese friends of mine have first names that are spelled kind of strangely (for a typicla English speaker). I wonder if that would be considered gibberish and Blizzard would cancel the account because they think it is a fake one? Some of my friends have Sanskrit names, that would be confusing as well.

If I used the name Vizir (which means minister in Urdu), would that also violate the rules since there is a national/ethnic conotation for the language the word is from? Vizir is also a trademarked name I'm sure, what if Disney complained? Now we can't use words from other languages because some entrepeneur might have it copyrighted?

"darius ganon" : YO WHERE IS TEH LOCH MODAN!?
"lord malfa" : Find it urself idiot!
"kalfazam" : 1337! I just Owned a lvl 23 druid and im a lvl 19 rogue
(^^^of course this would never happen unless the druid sucked ass)

wow....fantasy names and fantasy setting thrown right out the window.

Totally right. It's ridiculous to expect fantasy immersion in an MMORPG. There are too many idiots running around with their l33t speak and gamer lingo. Unless Blizzard is going to censor everyone's speech and force people to speak in Dragon Warrior "thees" and "thines", just forget the whole thing and let people create characters as they see fit.

I'm not going to mention any names but this really ticked me off.

Well, I guess this naming policy is shot... sad because I really kind of liked the whole idea.

But I would have to guess that xxdbzgokusomething is against the policy, right? Guess not.

Not only did these guys have these retarded names, but they begun to say stuff like "I am goku my power level is incredible". So just like I would of done, they (my friends) made fun of him, and guess who got warned by the GM?

Yep, my friends.

I follow the ToS, and I pay for this game.
Out of all the this, the most maddening part is still seeing xxxdbzgokuxxxx running around...

Lol, my Colonel_Lingus account for Warcraft3 is still alive. Got to level 31 and was briefly in the top 100, and blizzard never noticed.

Heh, I remember shit like this on PSO all the time. We would take a stroll off our laggy as fuck and breakable by a reversible sedgewick EU servers and head to the Biggest US server to mock all 20 guys in the lobby called Goku something or other.

Lol, my Colonel_Lingus account for Warcraft3 is still alive. Got to level 31 and was briefly in the top 100, and blizzard never noticed.

Thats pure class! I think the name I took for FFXI was by me searching for constellations or russian names in google and I decided on Galina, cant remember from which search I got it from but i liked the name anyway. There nothing I hate more on Xbox Live when your team mate has some stupid unpronounceable name (Which im sure Mr Allard said wouldnt happen, where did he go to anyway?)

Holy crap. How much of an idiot do you have to be to get offended at someones name(that isn't derogatory) in an RPG?!?! It's obvious that Fixed wasn't taking the whole fantasy name thing very seriously, and neither were the people he was playing with, so lecturing him on that front only shows how soft and shallow some of your lives really are. 0_o It's the names that break the fantasy atmosphere?? Get real.
