It's time to move away from Firefox (UP: Mozilla clarified the language in the ToS)

UPDATE: We've seen a little confusion about the language regarding licenses, so we want to clear that up. We need a license to allow us to make some of the basic functionality of Firefox possible. Without it, we couldn't use information typed into Firefox, for example. It does NOT give us ownership of your data or a right to use it for anything other than what is described in the Privacy Notice.

They just updated their TOS:

I don't know if Firefox is suicidal or straight up retarded, but with an abysmal market share I'm guessing the former.

Install Brave.

Ugh, I use safari as my main browser. I don't even know why I do that to myself. (Though I do really love the recent AI summaries for news articles…)

That is completely insane. I switched to waterfox a long time after they went corporate and started saying weird things, but now I use Brave. More compatible between devices

Probably not really what people are thinking. You don't upload a file to imgur.com and it somehow is double-uploading it to firefox servers, same with me typing this post in this textbox. The browser is securely encrypting this text and sending it to neogaf.com encrypted using the sites certificate.

They'll probably re-word it or give a better description.

It sounds more like covering themselves against the storage of data from your Firefox account. There's no mention of commercial use.

wtf is Brave, Edge works perfect for me, that copilot makes it seem like browsing 2.0, couldn't go back now
Brave, Edge, and Chrome are all forks of Chromium, so they are all very similar. Some people don't use Chrome or Edge because they don't trust Google or Microsoft with their data.

This is only an issue / valid in the US.
There is already a complaint about this in the EU:
So if Mozilla tries to do this in the EU it would be a clear GDPR violation with a hefty fine.

Ill stick with Firefox, but if Mozilla fucks up too much, there is always alternatives like Waterfox:

I used to love Firefox I used it for years but I just use Chrome for now but I'll take a look at Brave next time I'm on my PC.

I've been on Firefox for years but I just moved over to LibreWolf yesterday. Feels more cleaner and privacy focused. The only downside is that it breaks a lot of websites because of the enhanced anti fingerprinting. When I say breaks…I mean so far it seems to force light mode on websites which I hate so I installed darkreader. All good now and it's a compromise I'm happy to make.

Unfortunately it seems like Mozilla is trying to speedrun the death of Firefox. That isn't good and a world with chromium only browsers will suck and let Google have complete control over the internet. I'll stick to LibreWolf as long as possible.

I really don't want to use Chrome or Edge. If it comes to it then Brave seems like the next best option even if it is still chromium based. On Mac/iOS I use Safari which obviously isn't Chromium but I can't use it on PC.

Needs better wording. Mozilla company in general has poor leadership and if I cared about what they say and do I'd drop FF years ago. With that said Firefox is still the best non-Chromium browser out there and still the best choice if you want to control privacy and adblocking (not accounting for very niche browsers which may not work with some sites).

If people want Firefox with enhanced privacy, then use Librewolf or Mulvad.

Otherwise, use Brave.
Chrome and Edge are like viruses. Avoid them like the plague.

I'll keep using Firefox since all the Chromium-based shit is even worse, since Google have their grubby hands on the upstream. And Google is always the worse choice.

Great, just started using it again month or so ago. Is this world wide or us only?

Use of a product means they can use anything I upload or type to make them money. Extensive overreach.

No mention of Vivaldi yet?

Sure, it is just another Chromium browser, but it does have some nice and unique features, especially regarding tags. Good ad-blocking control too if that's you're thing (of course not this site).

It's made by some of the original people behind the Opera browser before that died and go reborn as a Chinese Chromium browser and lost almost all of what made it special.

Should probably add this to the OP

considering how short news articles are nowadays because people have the attention span of a toddler using AI to shorten it even more is certainly an new low.

Yeah, I've been all in on Brave for a while now. Browsing the internet on other browsers is borderline intolerable.

Well if you're leaving FireFox but don't want to use Chromium based browsers due to their association with Google, oh I'm sorry their real name is Evil Google, you could always use SeaMonkey.

Are you kidding me? All of the news articles I read (especially anything about gaming) are SO padded with paragraphs of absolutely nothing, in a desperate attempt to keep the user on the page for longer and to see more ads.

What's worse is how bad clickbait titles have gotten. Here's one at the top of my feed right now:

Most articles like this won't even tell you the name of the game until 3 or 4 paragraphs in. So yeah, AI summaries are great in combatting shitty, padded journalism.

Between this and Chrome we're fucked.

I smell bullshit. The language used in the privacy policy isn't good at all and similar applications don't need that sort of TOS.

I kinda hate myself for moving to Chromium but downloaded Brave and wow. It's so much faster!

The built in adblocker seems to be good too.

It's a bit bloated with all the AI, crypto shit etc but I disabled it all.

Fuck it. I think I'll just stick with it.

Can't stand Chromium. No menu bar is utter foolishness.

I tried a bunch of alternatives to Firefox years back when Mozilla forced stupid Proton on everyone but they were all still somehow worse.
