I've been replaying Red Dead Redemption 2 for the past two weeks and I have a few things to say

Same. I was not into GTA games, but RDR and especially RDR2 really worked for me. And I was not much into westerns either, but ironically now I am. I guess a lot of that comes with age and being into history as well.

One of the reasons I'm looking forward to GTA6 is seeing them take what they did with RDR2 and building upon that world simulation engine. The other reason is seeing the uncanny valley of all those areas I know well living in the free state of Florida. A top level AAA Florida man simulator does sound hilarious too.

Yeah Im hoping GTA6 has a similar emotional story between its characters and less of a goofy shit like GTA5, which was ok, but not super memorable.

First of all, disclaimer, if you are planning to play on pc this game, there is a mod that I consider essential, it's called Stutter Fix and it fixes issues that Rockstar introduced in some updates and never bothered to fix it like popping when turning the camera fast or stutter in certain areas like Saint Dennis and so on. It's sad that Rockstar doesn't care

Anyway I am not going to say anything that hasn't been told yet about this game, the game is absolutely fantastic, a masterpiece, it has a great open world, alive and recreated with such care that it's almost scary.

The animal kingdom representation in this game is so fucking real man, I can't imagine how difficult must have been for the developers to do something like this. Using the binoculars and seeing a wolf hunting a deer with such realism is crazy. I love as well how good the encounters and side stories are, they feel so organic and really help to feel immersed in the world

The dialogues, the story and characters are fantastically written, this is on another league compared to most modern games slops we get nowadays and one thing that really helps is that everything is mocap, even gameplay animations or random conversations with npcs. I can't stress this enough, every movement and animation is done with care and it's something that many games nowadays are missing unfortunately, recent examples AC Shadows and Yotei.

As for the gameplay, yes, it feels sluggish at times although there are a couple of mods that fix this problem, one of them gives you more speed transitions between walking, jogging and running which makes the movement much more accurate and there is another one that allows you to walk, jog and run just by moving the joystick forward like most games. These two mods can be a game changer and honestly I don't understand how Rockstar didn't implement it as an option at least

As for the graphics, the game still looks really good, the environments, the physics, the weather system and the world in general look very photo realistic and beautiful. Textures are showing his age as well as characters, their hair and faces are not as detailed although their facial animations and voice acting are so good that it feels like it compensates this issue.

One thing I miss while playing is a little bit more of freedom during missions. The game during missions doesn't let you approach the gameplay with many options, it feels quite on rails. It's not a big deal but I hope that GTA6 will give us more options in this regard

Anyway, after 7 years since launch, the game totally holds up and even more with a few mods. I have a list that works really well so if anyone wants it I can post it here, but yeah, please play this game, its a wonderful experience and the ending hits really hard

Thanks for reading papitos, cheers.

I prefer RDR1. The story was tighter. RDR2 buckled a bit under the weight of its ambition.

Incredible game. Occasionally found myself just wandering around doing nothing but taking in the landscape. The sort of game that can make you feel a certain peace about things when you're just chilling around with it.

I've tried to get into this game multiple times on multiple platforms over the years and I just don't enjoy the gameplay and slow travel. It's a shame because it's the most impressive and detailed world ever created. I can't even imagine how insane GTA6 is gonna be if RDR2 was this staggering on a fucking PS4.

Good post, nice screenshots. It's always nice to have a game that clicks with you and hits all the points you want it to hit.

At this point I think I know enough about my tastes to know that even if R* didn't have their shit launcher I probably wouldn't be interested because I'm a gameplay first sort of person and the slow, scripted animation-focused gameplay just isn't my speed. I've tried to achieve that in other games because I liked the idea, but found that I'd much rather be done with all that and get to the fun part. Or perhaps slow down, but only if I feel like it. I'm a PS2 era Rockstar man, not a current era one.

Just watched some gameplay footage and there's a lot of "Mash B to escape" which doesn't look like my cup of tea.

That isn't to say it's a bad game, just that it isn't for me. Power to you if you like this sort of thing.

It really sucks you PC fools just can't enjoy games the way they were meant to be. Tweaks galore all the fucking time, completely destroying the vision in some way or another.

I'll never understand and it's why I'm glad I'll never touch that crap, but hey to each their own. And don't forget to update your drivers you shitdicks.

Think again my friend..

This game has one of the most well crafted open world maps with incredible detail to wildlife. But its a better hunter simulation game than a 3rd person western shooter. The gameplay elements are all subpar from laggy controls to the way the game forces you to do the missions in a super linear way or you get mission failed if you try to get creative.

This is a Rockstar issue, they fixed this issue in GTA Online in the Caio Perico heist where you can tackle the mission in multiple ways and you can be creative to acomplish the mission objective. Hope they keep following that formula for GTA6, and drop the nonsense of Mission Failed, everytime you dont do what Simon says.

Yeah, but I don't need to play games with my characters having an unrealistic, modded large ass and titties. That does nothing for me. If you wanna play with your dick out and the family vaseline, have it it homeskillet.

Her body looks disproportionate and stupid as hell anyway :messenger_grinning_squinting:

The only positive thing I can say about this game is that it's still gorgeous and probably has one of the best worlds to just walk around (as long as you only walk around and not try to do anything in it)

Unfortunately, the rest sucks. From the sluggishness of the controls, the bad gunplay, the narrative that punishes the player if he dares to use the open world in some way, the really weird pacing of story moments...

I still go back every once in a while just to continue the hunting missions. It's a nice chill way to spend the evening.

I'm tempering my expectations with GTAVI, without Dan Houser and Michael Unsworth at the story helm, whoever is handling it is going to be bringing their style to the world. Might work really well and be a nice fresh injection into the series or it might fall flat and lose the magic that Rockstar games oozed under Houser's penmanship.

I started RDR1 and it already seems better from a story stand point and characters also. The are more missions involving combat and they are fun and aren't as quick.
There are no combat missions at the beginning of RDR1. Horse racing, working as a herdsman, and other nonsense that almost made me quit the game. The best part of RDR1 is the Undead Nightmare.

Oh No Wow GIF by Rockstar Games

I just couldn't get into the game and found it really boring. The writing characters and all that weren't great to me it was just boring. The shooting\combat was fun but I felt like there were barely any missions that involved that sort of stuff and when I did have those missions they were short.

The game clicked for me when I actually started role playing as a cowboy. Slow walking through towns being hard as fuck, etc.

Yah, amazing game, it makes me sad that their next game is gta that I have little interest in, and at the rate they make games I could easily be approaching 60 (I'm early 40s🤣) by the time there's a new reddead or something else (sci-fi perhaps)

As a man in his 40s, the gameplay is very accurate for how it must feel to move around as Aurther. I'm not talking about the input lag the last gen console versions have. Just the slow, animation based gameplay found on the PC version. It's really fantastic if you're not addicted to COD movement. I know many gaffers are livid it doesn't have slide canceling and strafe jumping, but I think it helps the immersion.

Sums it up for me, too. Everything about this game is great to (near) perfection, apart from the most important thing of all: Gameplay. Hopefully GTA6 is the one game where I can finally say they nailed the gameplay as much as all the other aspects.

Something I really wished R* would have done a long time ago. With such open and flexible worlds it always felt wrong to be rail roaded so hard during missions.

I get the challenge, it would be much easier to cheese and each mission would be a lot more complicated. The linear missions enable them to do cinematic inserts because they know the setup, but it would be nice to see the scope for a mission widen and use the sandbox world more and scripting less.

Exactly! Hopefully GTA VI improves on this. It's been a long time that I played V but didn't that had better mission variety than previous games? Now hopefully more freedom.

Man.

I'm glad I saw this thread.

I started this game for the first time ever last week.

The opening sequence is painful. Slow, Naughty Dog Insomniac style walking around 'press A' to inspect style slop.

I played GTA V last year and it was nothing like this, nor do I remember RDR being like this either.

I think I will give it a go but I stopped playing after the introduction and was not impressed at all.

The only emotions in GTA games should be things like anger caused by betrayal of an holmie or the thrill and excitement of running a crime empire.

I've been making my way through the game for years now. I rarely beat games so that's why it's taken me this long. But anyways, I love the game. I've put over 90 hours into red dead online but just never went through single player. I'm going to get through it soon. I just finally beat the last of us part 1 also. 😅😅

I should give the game a chance really, it's installed and i've installed it a few times over they years, but i barely get past the first camp and town, i don't go back after the first few hours like i do with GTA games or Fallout's and TES, i've never been a real Western fan, but those screenshots look really good and it is a bit slow to start.

Well let's hope it's not crashing as many PS5s as RDR2 did with PS4s.
