An Izod shirt! And people are 'popping' the collars?!? Nooooo! Are Jordache jeans and "big handled" combs next?

GAF please tell me that this is just some random gay guy trying to bring back a fad. Don't tell me it other people are doing it.

I'm going to school in Kingston, Ontario and this has been pretty popular among rich white kids for well over a year now.

I was going to respond with something like,
"Ooh, I love this game! Here, let me go:

I win motherfucker! I win!"

But all the good images of that fruity bastard are offline :(

I'm pretty sure they've always been popular around me. I'm wearing one now, actually(not Izod...just some generic collared shirt...different material though).

I think popping the collar looks retarded though.

Welcome to like two years ago. They have been back instyle for a minute. I guess they are going critical mass now but, back when everyone was going apeshit for pink was when they first started showing back up.

I am guilty of popping my collar :(

I've even worn two polos and popped both collars

I apologize to you GAF..:(

edit: also, I'm pretty sure it was Kanye West who brought back the popped collar.

He's right.

I work at a University with very fashion conscious females. They have been popping the collars for a couple of years now.

I have pictures of me in the 80's proudly wearing my pink LeShark shirt. It's scary how fashions come around again.

Popping the collar looks like a bunch of people are trying to copy Count Dracula's style. Or maybe Count Chocula...

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Yeah, I went shopping for some summer clothes at Macy's the other day, in the mens' section, the clothing lineup was extra colorful - pinks, bubblegum pink and turquoise striped shirts, hot oranges, bright yellows. All the clothes brands had clothes like these - Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Tommy... hell even Sean John! I usually like deep colors (like navy blue), but there was hardly anything to be found.

popped collars look ridiculous, especially when a person is wearing two polo shirts.

A double decker pop is crazy, but a triple decker pop is something special*.

For reference, I only "pop my collar" on my carhartt jacket to keep my fucking neck warm when the temperatore drops below zero.

*as in "retarded"

wtf is izod? Lacoste polos?

Uptill that post I was in WTF-mode. Why do you call it Izod? It's Lacoste. I bought one years ago in Paris, turned out back in The Netherlands 'twas quite the preppy brand, little did I know :/.

Sigh, I cant believe I am doing this, but here goes.

That is not an Izod shirt. That is a Lacoste shirt. I will never buy a Lacoste shirt (50 bucks for a polo my ass), but yes polos in general are still in style.

Izod

Lacoste

Some history

They used to be connected, it was Izod by Lacoste, but in the US they were always called Izod shirts. The alligator was Izod to almost everyone. But they broke off their relationship in 1993, but still operate today, but totally seperate. It is confusing.

$50 for Lacoste? Damn, that's cheap. $50 is like say Banana Republic while Lacoste is more like $80-100 typically. I'm not a big fan though.. more of a Ben Sherman kinda guy although I usually try and go for them only when theyre on sale or off eBay. The one I have on now though was $60 at Bloomingdales and damn if it doesnt look good. :D

p.s. Popping your collar is fucking stupid.

Tell that to every 3rd guy I see walking around campus dude.

It is dumb though, and Ben Sherman is pretty nice stuff. I was close to buying one of his shirts at a Sax 5th Ave outlet in Orlando but I went for a different shirt instead.

I must be further out of the loop than I thought if this style's been back for 2 years. I haven't seen anyone in Boston wearing this old crap. Thank God, I've been through this once already and thought I was done. At least my mother doesn't buy my clothes this time around so I'll escape the alligator myself.

I didn't know about the Izod/Lacoste thingy, interesting...thanks for the info.

FYI, I have two Lacoste polos, a beige/khaki and a light blue. My GF has black, white, and orange polos.

Neither of us pop our collars =P

My condolences.

Miami's not that bad... Steinkeller ftw!

It's also an excellent place if you want to go to laugh at people in pink polo shirts with popped collars, as previously mentioned. Classes are full of these retards.

Just graduated Grade 12 this year, and it was pretty much a requirement for any self-respecting male to own a Lacoste shirt and parade it proudly.

I bought a lime green one in the spring, and let me tell you - it was totally worth the pricetag on it. Best polo shirt I've ever owned. I fucking hated the flipped collar thing, though, which *also* seemed to be a requirement at school, so it was my way of "OMFG GOINZ AGAINST DA SYSTEM YO".

As for polos in general... yeah, they're in style, but mostly for those "half-prep" slackers who think they're glam models. It's sort of like the flagship piece for becoming fashionable, the easy way. I'm still waiting for the classy-dressy style to start hitting its stride so we won't have to put up with the greaseball look that's becoming more and more prevalent with the kids. It's really getting annoying.

Fuck man tell me about it! I like to wear nice shirts but I hate the pastel-ish colors that are all over now. It's nigh impossible to find nice collared and/or button-down shirts [on the casual side] in the colors I want... [deep red, maroon, navy, even fuckin' black seems scarce lately.]

oh and screw people who flip the collars. #!@$

We used to give a college friend of mine a bunch of shit for always wearing Izod shirts... just for the hell of it. This was around '98 and '99, though, I haven't seen many people recently wearing either brand. Then again, I haven't exactly been looking out for them, either.

Pastels and popped collars? Er... no thanks.

shpankey

not an idiot
I grew up in the 80's, and Izod's were crazy popular back then. All the preppy kids wore them and then eventually everyone wore them trying to appear to be a preppy kid.

Eventually, the Izod became so synonymous with being a rich preppy kid, that 80's movie's villainized the shirts by using them on pretentious, whinny rich kid characters. So they went out of style because nobody wanted to seem to be like that.

I haven't seen anyone wearing them around locally... but I have noticed them on TV a bit lately. I thought.. wtf? All everyone is missing are the Guess jeans to go with them

But what rediculous style comes back next? Parachute pants and Kaepa shoes? :lol

Personally, I can't fucking wait till these stupid ass pants with flared bottoms and dirty look to them go out of style. If you guys knew just how fucking rediculous you look. One day you will sware you were fucked in the head for wearing them, and shun to look at old photo's of yourself in them.

I like the old Bugle Boy's which were normal pants in the 90's without that flared out shit.

It's funny how Lacoste clothing used to be easy to find in bargain clothing stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls and certain department stores up until a few years ago. As soon as they started getting popular again their prices went sky high and they vanished from the bargain clothing stores.

Personally, I think Lacoste and Izod make good clothes so it never hurts to have an item or two of theirs in your wardrobe. On the other hand, they are very popular at the moment, so as far as making any kind of fashion statement, I find them very unappealing. Retro/Hipster style > Prep style but that's just me.

This thread isn't complete until someone posts a link to the infamous popped collar article.
