Jak3 jerk off thread (who's getting it tomorrow?)

Ok tomorrow is also Halo2 but let's forget about this game for a sec and let's speak with other people like me that are hyped for Jak3 and will buy it tomorrow.

The demo was not bad at all. The game was rushing to keep it's 60 fps but i'm actually surprised, they increased the graphic quality again. Really, this Naughty Dog/Insomniac engine (that i don't know the name of) kicks some serious ass.

I'm getting it upon release...

I dunno why, but I am actually kinda looking forward to it.

I wasn't interested in the game much but yesterday that video made me realize how much more polish and better graphics it seems to have than JakII... I'm hyped now :) .
Judging from the latest media, the '10' IGN gave JakIII on gfx is a deserved one, this game is up there with the best looking console games... From what I've seen, JakIII's technology has impressed me more than Halo2's (I hear you all shouting "Blasphemy!!" now...).

I'd like to see the story through to its conclusion, but it won't be this week. Halo 2 and Eyetoy:Antigrav have got my attention. I think this will end up a rental.

It's gonna be on the christmas list, I just traded-in some games for Ratchet & Clank: UYA, so that's going to be the game I'm playing for a while - plus I need to play through JakII again to get up and up on the story again.

Jak2 and 3 are probably the best looking PS2 games and some of the best looking this gen!

I'm boycotting all platformers that use mini-games, vehicles, or REQUIRE you to use a wacky extra character to play. This extra bullshit is no substitute for MORE and BETTER level design.

Are you boycotting Halo 2, for some of the same reasons, then? ;)

LOL. And apparently Halo 2 requires the crutch of online play to make up for a short and uninspired single player campaign. :D

(Just kidding , [/sarcasm], etc)

R&C games are in the same boat. You are forced to play as Clank sometimes, have minigames, and have to use vehicles in some levels. Not sure if Drinky is much of a fan of R&C either, though.

I said PLATFORMERS YOU FUCKNARDS; vehicles integrated into FPS play are fine, since they're usually done properly and enhance rather than detract from the core gameplay mechanics.

When I see a vehicle in an FPS I go "fuck yeah, shit gonna get shot up now".
When I see a vehicle in a platformer I say "why the fuck would I want to do this when I'd rather be PLATFORMING in a COOL, CRAZY-ASS LEVEL instead of trying to maneuver a finicky hoverboard around?"

R&C3 is yet more of that stupid Cornucopia O' Crap gameplay I can't stand. Pick a mechanic and GET IT RIGHT instead of trying to merge 50 games into 1 and doing a shitty job across the board. Whenever the player asks WHY THE FUCK AM I DOING THIS and the answer is SO YOU CAN GET TO MORE OF THE BITS OF THE GAME YOU DO LIKE the game sucks, period.

Yeah, this genre blending needs to stop. Gamers apparently think they're getting extra value or something. Youre not. Gone are the days of games with clear goals. Wanna know why? None of us finish our games anymore.

Marco, I know what you're talking about, and YES it does piss me off, but the difference between the two characters is actually quite negligible.

B.S. GTA would never have been made if we stuck to simple genre conventions. Adding weapons play to R&C has made a whole new genre of Platformer.

Lets stick our heads in the sand and damn the innovation? Change and evolution are a necessary and critical part of this industry that is still maturing.

Weapons are fine. Hoverboard racing, characters with completely different (and sloppy) play controls and mechanics, and other goofy mini-games are NOT. If the mechanics can be intergrated into the core engine: fine. If they have independent mechanics, they diminish the continuity of the experience and are often tragically unpolished compared to similar genres, to boot.

Why the fuck would I want to play a cut-rate take on Tony Hawk or Frequency (or some shitty-ass card game) that's massively inferior, and were it separated from its parent game, compare poorly to other similar titles? Just because it's embedded in another game doesn't make it any more palatable, and it's a waste of developer time/energy.

I was just having fun, not trying to call you up on any inconsistency or anything. But it was just too funny to pass it up.

No more hovercars in Jak 3 though. The buggys control much more 'normal'.

Its not innovation, its a lack of fucking discipline. Grow up sony cowboy. Maybe you should own a gamecube. Fits your demographic (waa waa im a baby) a bit better. Kudos if you already do.

Hell no. Jak is teh mature. He has a goatee, a bad attitude and a big gun! :D

I didn't think there were enough GAFers claiming that the likes of R&C or Jak were somehow sublime gaming perfection in a box to warrant the star power of Drinky Crow and MAF to cast their withering scrutiny on matters.

If any of you Jak II haters get it and like it, write about it, please. Might push me to a rental soon.

No problem mate. Ahaha.

I'm gonna get it Thursday or Friday. I'm too busy this week.

Drinky Crow you are such an asshole.

If you don't like a game don't play it! Theres need to ruin every fucking thread.

Keep your dick head opinions to yourself.

If i feel it's not just a filler, new gameplay is welcome in my games. If it kills the genre completely or feel like a core then it's bad though.
I don't mind the vehicules in RAC and JAD.

I'm definitely going to rent it and if it isn't as frustrating as Jak 2 it may be a purchase. However, I've still got to buy Sly 2 before that.

PAL release date is set to the 26th. Sucks they didnt go with a world wide launch like last time. :(

Anyway, I'll be getting it for sure.
P
S: One request from me, can the pathetic Jak hatahs stay out of the thread? Thx.
-Love, Forsete

I agree with MAF and Drinky, less crappy minigames getting in the way of polishing the core game.

Having played the JakIII demo I can confidently say I won't be buying this at full price. Someone needs to remind ND that it's 2004 and nobody thinks floaty fluffy hover mechanics are cool and futuristic anymore. Also they still haven't fixed the early-32bit gen aiming system. A solid lock on or dual stick control please, not this horrible vague point the character forward and hope the imprecise soft lock actually works.

Gameplay is only as good as its weakest link. I don't care if a team of 20 have slaved for months on a minigame, if it's crap cut it out.

R&C3 I'm not sure on either. I'll dig through the impressions thread (bearing in mind GAFs unnatural love for this game) to find out if the levels are as bland and the minigames as insipid as R&C2.

I'm thinking of picking it up in the after Christmas sales - too much on the plate right now. If I don't get it then, I'll wait for the Platinum release, which will inevitably hit around July/August of next year.

I'll be getting it in a few weeks. Gotta put Halo 2, Metroid Prime and MGS over it...but it's fourth on my list, and that's saying something :lol

I'll be getting this as soon as it's available. I've already got it preordered.

Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando had some wickedly great racing sequences--better than some standalone racing games even! For that matter, Jak II also had some very good racing sequences, but I thought the racing in R&C2 was a little better.

Watching teh GAFer drama is far more interesting than the game.

If I pay you guys $50, can you continue for another 30 hours?

I may rent it down the line. Jak II was such an overrated piece of crap, it made me lose all interest in the series. Not that Daxter didn't do anything to help that...

Jak 3 has some of the finest extras. You can buy the option to have commentary tracks on almost all the cutscenes, which is pretty cool. You get to hear the animators talking about their work and designers about their vision for the game.

Damn, that sounds exciting. I might preorder this.

That's awesome. Ever since Sly Cooper, I always thought that commentary tracks for videogames is the most brilliant idea for a 'secret' I've seen in years. Until that point I thought it would really be boring to listen to, but it's fairly entertaining. I wish more games feature commentary, but I guess that's a bit too much to wish for. I'm glad to hear Jak III has that in some form, gives me something to look forward to.

For the fake record, I liked Jak II but do agree it's overrated. But Jak III has rekindled my hope. After R&C:UYA, my heart won't be able to take another platformer-esque game of that high quality so soon.

Drinky again preaches the truth. Just say NO to convergent gameplay.

The thing is that the Jak series actually does platforming pretty well, but neglects it more and more with each game. I doubt I'll even bother with Jak III since there are so many other games to spend my time on.
