No way, it'll be lucky to do half that 1st month. Hopefully it'll be consistant seller for awhile and Capcom's good about restocks.

Even though February sales kept strong the first week at our store (we never sold out, but we came close a couple times), things have definitely died down. RE4 will be pretty front-loaded. It might double its first month's sales overall, but that's about it.

RE on GC = less brand name recognition than Metroid Prime.

RE4 will not be the savior you're thinking it to be. How long have I been saying this now? October? August?

like before E3 probably...

um, RE4 IS the saviour, and if Nintendo fans are going their jobs they are spreading the gospel far and wide...

Mikami went out of his way for Nintendo, the least N-fans could do is embrace this last hurrah for the system before next-gen starts...

I'm certain they did.

Gamecube fans did, yeah, but that's not who the game was meant for for it to be a "savior."
 
Dude, have you looked at the sales in Japan? The market's are not the same, but it's performance thus far is not inspiring. Selling 200k seems almost like a victory--half million would be nuts.

There are 8 million or more Cubes out there in NA. Just do that math. 10% adoption and you've got 800,000 copies sold in a few months hopefully...

Anything less than a million for US would be a disgrace for Capcom, though they didn't do themselves any favors announcing a port so soon...

Combined RE0 and REmake haven't sold a million in the US. Neither has even sold over 500k.
 
The Twin Snakes got it's *ss whooped by a farming game, but the real game to continue the series did well enough last Christmas (if not spectacular)...

REmake and RE:0 are so antiquated it's not even funny, it's no wonder people didn't go for them...

Actually, counting the "Pure Evil" pack they're over a million now I think. Both stand alone releases were almost 500k anyway.

They both had killer graphics and were freakin' violent/bloody/gory. They should've been big deals, but it was poor advertising that really killed off any chances of success for those games.

RE4 has had great advertising and is great to play, but people don't care about Gamecube anymore (
not all THAT true, we've had a couple people ask if buying a GC was worth it just for RE4, and every employee at our store has given a pretty enthusiastic yes despite not all of them being fans of the system. Then again, anecdotal evidence...

Pure Evil would have had to have sold about 50,000, and there's no way in hell it did that.

I'd say timing was a big issue too, releasing 2 Resident Evils rooted in antiquated design 6 months from each other was definitely a mistake. Plus PS2 was getting the "progressive" Capcom horror/action games in Onimusha and Devil May Cry, so a good portion of the former RE fanbase was sated skipping these games and GameCube entirely. Really, Capcom just handled the whole thing rather badly.

Capcom has 8M+ GC owners to work with, if they don't wanna buy RE4 and turn it into a multimillion seller then that's their problem, don't pin the blame on PS2 owners holding out for the PS2 version because its not our responsibility to buy GC games

I think November, but no... it wasn't in the NPD. However, REmake sold something like 11,000 copies, which was strange.
 
Pure Evil was released by Cokem, no Capcom...

also, REmake sold 11,000 copies because Best Buy got a shipment in for December (don't know if Capcom asked for shelf space or if they re-ordered)...

It's clear the Xbox base isn't interested in sloppy seconds, even when improved like Onimusha was. Maybe if the fanbase had bought it a RE4 port would look worthwhile financially. The Xbox base seems rather apathetic towards Japanese games anyway though, unless they're loaded with titties.

Wouldn't matter really, by the time a potential port could finish up Xbox will be on it's way out already in favor of Xenon.
 
I'm a big fan of Genma Onimusha, but at the same time realize it couldn't have competed for sales with the still-fresh launch titles. And even a few months out of launch it was still perceived as a simple port of an old PS2 game that was itself becoming even older news because of Devil May Cry (which made huge waves a few months earlier than Genma).

RE4 is obviously a very different game than any Onimusha and I say would have been a viable choice for Xbox, not just the few of us Xboxers who are straight-out Capcom fans (for better or worse).
 
bah 200k for RE4 for the first month would suck. Hopefully it's at least 300k but I'm not holding my breath.
 
It will be interesting to see how Getaway:BM actually does. I forgot it even existed but then I see in this latest OPM (which I don't remember subscribing to) a little sales pitch called "AtoZ Guidebook for Getaway", a little pamphlet that looks very much like a mini instruction booklet for one of the GTAs...which I'd suspect can only be a BIG positive...
 
Maybe it wont hit 700,000 copies I went with, but I still feel the people saying RE4 is going to sell less than 300,000 are going to get peezowned :)

while on the high end of estimates, it's not out of the realm of possibility...

if Fable could do 650,000 it's first month, so can RE4...

The Wind Waker sold 700,000 I think, and I'd say RE4 is much more mainstream appealing that Wind Waker...

I think you're thinking about it all wrong. It's not what the mainstream finds appealing that you need to consider, it's what the Gamecube base finds appealing, and I'd venture to say that that base is more interested in Zelda than Resident Evil. There is absolutely no reason to believe that another segment other than current Gamecube owners decided to buy a Gamecube just for Resident Evil. The hardware numbers might bear out that RE4 was a system seller if the numbers are somewhat higher than historical norms.

I still think RE will probably do better than most games in January, and probably better than 200k.

Crystal Chronicles sold 250,000 last March, there is no way that abstract, bizarre game will have done better in it's first month than RE4

No. freaking. way.

Anybody who thinks RE4 could possibly do less than 200,000 is going to be shocked tomorrow.

that said, in contemplating that ban proposal the only problem is I have nothing to gain from it, only to lose (and I'm just back from a long ban as it is)...

the only downsides I've could count so far are that the retail month ended a bit early, NPD could be offbase anyway because of their ways of compiling data,and RE4 was behind Mercenaries in the ebgames charts two weeks ago...

I'll consider it, but like I said I have nothing to gain...

Well, don't be stupid and risk the ban, but before you said. It will EASILY DO 400,000 as though that were the absolute lowest number. Thus, you must be expecting a higher number, say 550k? More? Less?

well, Fable did 650,000, and that got mixed reactions, from brilliant to medicore, RE4 is getting pretty much brilliant across the board, and is from a popular series with at the very least a recognizable names due to games and movies...

I mean, it would seem like 400,000 shouldn't even be a problem.

RE2 did like 1.2 million in a weekend or something in January back in '98, I would hope RE4 could muster at least 1/2 that in 17 days (or however many days it will have been on sale)...
 
We'll if you visit Gamestop and Ebgames websites and look at bestsellers for GC games you'll see that RE4 is at the top. Is it any indication that the title has done impressive numbers, maybe not, but it is something to ponder.

Fable was also the RPG TO END ALL RPGS back in 2002, and that reputation carried over into 2004.

Comparing RE2's situation to RE4's is also pretty damn... strange. The Gamecube is not the PlayStation, and 2005 is not the middle of the generation.
 
275-300K, with the minimum of 200K sold in January.

Probably 1/2 to 2/3 of that done in February as well.

People have been waiting for this. :P
