Japan’s anime pilgrimages give economic boost to local towns

My Planned JP trip includes a walk through Kabukicho for *precisely* this reason.

(well, that and taking some photos of the Godzilla head on top of the cinema.)

There's also a German town called Rothenburg (ob der Tauber) that thousands of Japanese anime fans flock to every year. It is the setting of several well known animes, like A Little Snow Fairy Sugar and Princess Tutu.
The town does look especially cute and romantic:

Because it is so popular with Japanese many signs in the region are bilingual German and Japanese.
