Japanese Music (Pop, rock and all 'dat) |OT|

Ricky Wilson. American expat who moved to tokyo to make vinyl figurines, discovered idols, made his own group. to the best of my recollection he started as a BRGH wota and was even briefly in their movie. Nice guy.

So Koda Kumi is doing the summer single thing again. And she had the nerve to call it "LIT". 😭😭😭

I can't believe I still stan for this woman. I haven't bought any of her albums since Japonesque. The song is okay.

I like it, it sounds cute. I don't care for the cover though :(

Great, can't wait for the new album

Just came back from BiSH's tour finale at Makuhari Messe (it wasn't the big hall though but the small one with "just" 7000 people). Man that was great... I wish I knew all the moves to participate more but still had a blast, especially during Monsters and Giant Killers. They didn't have a back band this time but it wasn't a problem. Crowd was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity : from wotas to teenage/college girls, dudes wearing punk shirts... Great to see so much people loving them.

I was so happy when that came up on my YT subs. I made a smartphone wallpaper out of the part where 神聖かまってちゃん flashes across the screen. Damn. Such a good song.
I love a lot of the lyrics, too. Posted on Twitter haha

Speaking of Twitter, I know this is short, but I posted a small clip of Necronomidol performing at one of my favorite venues.
Here.

My summer playlist featuring primarily Japanese songs if anyone's interested: https://open.spotify.com/user/doktorpeace/playlist/2qeCQ162k20dMlq4kMrO7j

How I described it to my friends on facebook:

Hour 1: The freshest beats, to really impress your friends when they show up and ask about your new pool.
Hour 2: You start to mix things up as you wonder why everyone is so late.
Hour 3: "K-pop is better than IRL friends, right? What do you think of that new group Pristin?" you ask yourself.
Hour 4: You float in the pool as flies hover over the untouched veggie platter. Noise metal, candy pop, chaos.
Hour 5: Summer nights!

Too bad I can't throw any Keyakizaka46 on there due to them not being on Spoti but been playing their album (Type B) in my car and enjoying it.

Monari Wakita - 泣き虫レボリューション

seems like the radio track? not a fan.

oh man monari, not like this

ヤなことそっとミュート - Any【MV】

still just about my favorite idol thing going right now

ももいろクローバーZ「BLAST!」

I don't really have feelings either way on this, but it's very classic momoclo

Super bummed about pataco & pataco leaving Koutei Camera Gal and leaving the industry all together. The eternal idol killer "family circumstances" claims another victim :(

Noooooooooo someone stop this happening ffs.
Also is うぉーうぉー とぅーみ releasing any music at all, all the other Koutei girls seem to have projects but I can't seem to find anything she's done since the split?

Monari Wakita - 泣き虫レボリューション
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WsRNdKk1zo

Recipe for Monari Wakita solo career
Take Especia
Remove all hints of menace and weirdness
Crank the mall pop knob to 11
Remove everyone except Monari
Blend into a pasty inoffensiveness

Kinda too bad, I liked IN THE CITY for what it was. But every single since seems to get worse.

I think the only song we have in America from any of these Sony Music groups is the AKB48 song from Wreck-It Ralph (Sugar Rush). Otherwise there's nothing.

On the one hand, it's smart because I probably wouldn't have spent the money to import the album if it was on Spotify (since I just end up ripping the CD to play via Spotify on my phone anyway), but on the other hand there is almost no exposure to these groups over here so there's no real chance for growth. There must be some interest from someone at Sony since Who Killed Daigoro Tokuyama? was subbed and put on Amazon Prime, but who knows. As much as I love Keyakizaka46, I don't really see a market for them over here other than the diehards in threads like this.

In any case, despite still hating CD jewel cases (seriously how are these still so terrible) I found myself really enjoying the physical discs I bought of Sekai ni wa Ai Shika Nai and Futari Saison due to the DVDs featuring short films of the girls that I wasn't expecting at all. The DVD for the full album (Type B) is a little bland though as apart from the Eccentric MV it just has a few behind the scenes vids of the making of the other music videos, which are pleasant but not really that interesting. I got Type B because I already have access to all the MVs on the Type A DVD (thx Sony Taiwan).

WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA has been releasing (digital) single after single and they've all been pretty strong. I'm impressed with their recent output and KOM_I consistently sounds great.

New Utada music always makes me so happy. Can't wait for a new album.

I think from both of the singles she's released I'll like Utada's next album far more than I liked Fantome, which I still enjoyed a lot.

Both 大空で抱きしめて and Forevermore are really great.

I agree. I enjoyed Fantome, but it's a bit of a sleeper for me. Her two recent singles capture my ears much more.
