Seraphis Cain
bad gameplay lol
Anyone else slightly fascinated by this sort of thing? I love seeing how Japan handles the openings for stuff they import from the US.
Of course there's the classic that everyone knows by now (or should know), the Japanese openings for the 90s X-Men animated series, which featured 90s as hell butt-rock and some amazing animation done exclusively for them. The second opening even manages to do the impossible and actually make Cyclops look cool.
Then there's one of my other favorites, the opening and ending to the 70s Batman animated series, which are just kinda hilarious (the Engrish bits in the lyrics are amazing).
Then for a couple of Disney examples, there's the honestly pretty good Ducktales opening, and the less good Goof Troop opening, where it becomes obvious that the Japanese language isn't really equipped to say the words "Goof Troop".
And then we have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, both the 80s series, where they're clearly struggling to fit original Japanese lyrics into the American theme, and the 2003 series which has a pretty decent original theme, even if it sounds like the theme to every early-00s shounen anime ever. Seriously open that in one tab then open any early Naruto opening on mute in another and tell me it doesn't fit.
For a couple of Transformers examples, there's the Transformers Animated opening, which features a monologue at the beginning by Optimus Prime, making sure all the kids at home know he's called Optimus Prime in Japan now and not Convoy. Also the song's pretty good but it's JAM Project so that's to be expected. Then there's the Transformers Prime opening with a pretty decent (if not a bit too heavy on the auto-tune) m-flo song.
Anyone have any other examples? 'Cause I'd love to see them if so.
