Japanese PS2, flip-top mod questions

A friend of mine uses the flip-top mod to play IIDX. I love it. I'm also stuck with a Japanese PS2 much of the time, and I do own a few US games.

My question is, do the Swap Magic discs work on Japanese systems?

If no, can I buy a region-specific Swap Magic? I remember hearing someone bitch about how poorly they worked on Japanese systems.

Where's a good place for this stuff?

Yes, Swap Magic work on JPN systems. Buy the Japanese disc of Swap Magic. I had a JPN PS2 fliptop and it ran fine for most US games (God of War was the only one that didnt work for soome reason).

bought mine at www.linker4u.com

With the cost of the discs + the cost of the flip top mod + the cost of future swap magic version updates, I'd just get a used US ps2 . Seems like such a huge hassle.

Or maybe HD Loader, which can be put on a memory card.

I think Swap Magic sends you upgraded versions if you register with them (I havent done that though).

You also dont need to "mod" your fliptop, you can either (1) open it up yourself and duct tape the switches, or if you dont want to open it up...(2) buy the plastic stoppers they sell with Swap Magic which does the same thing. Either way works fine and its very easy, I've done it myself.

I'm just assuming the OP was referring to these:

That's the impression I got at least. Either way, I stand by my post :lol

Or, get a modchip. Swapping those things everytime you want to play a game can get ridiculous I hear.

Ahhh...the old one. I thought he meant the new slim "fliptop" PStwo.

In that case, yeah zackattack is right. Too much cost and hassle to mod it.

The memory card exploit simply doesn't work on Japanese systems. At least not early ones (launch model).

It's looking like I can get the disc and cover for ~$50something, which is sounding a whole lot more appealing to me right now than a used US PS2. I'm still on the fence, though.

Slick, thanks.
