Japenese PSP: A Couple of Questions

So, basically, a friend of mine was hitting me with questions that I simply couldn't answer, and also kinda/sorta piqued my interest in maybe importing one myself. So you'll be helping 1 - and maybe 2 - people out:

Will the menu system be bi-lingual, like the DS?

How many of the JP launch games (if any) will have English text/menus. I put forward Lumines as a possible candidate based on that one screenshot that every game website (and their mothers) have posted. But he's not really a puzzle fan, and Rez actually put him to sleep. (Retribution was visited upon him, don't worry.)

It should be multi-lingual, I think, same as DS.

I have heard that the games are being made as multi-lingual, but I doubt this is true for RPGs and other more text heavy games. Stuff like Lumines and Ridge Racers will be fine anyway.

Given that the hardware and software is region free, I'm inclined to agree. Confirmation before 12 Dec. would be cool, though.

Yeah, Lumines is, by all accounts, all music and graphics. The worst part of it (relatively speaking) would be possibly Japanese-only menus. But given Rez, I don't think that'll be an issue.

Some other pressing questions based on recent history:
Will there be issues with American Memory Stick Duos in a JP PSP?
Will there be issues with American games trying to write to a JP-formatted Memory Stick Duo?
Will there be issues with Japanese games trying to write to US-formatted Memory Stick Duo?
Will there be Wireless LAN issues with JP and American versions of games (e.g., a hypothetical, online-enabled Ridge Racer)?
What is the fastest animal on land?

(I'd tell my friend to just get off AIM and find all of this shit out himself, but I'm nice. And, I think, we could all use this for our own edification.)

Well, it's up to the developer really, to my knowledge TRC doesn't specify any requirement for titles having to be multilingual.
Personally I own quite a number of GBA titles that are single language too.

MSs are bought pre-formatted, and I never heard of there being differencies based on where they are made, or any other device having issues with MS purchased in a different country.
I'd say unless they are creating new issues for PSP on purpose, there won't be any. :P

Well, in that case, I was referring specifically to the hardware menus. I know software will be on a game-by-game basis.

That's interesting. I've never used a memory stick, so I can only judge this particular issue based on what people have noticed with the Gamecube and PS2 regarding the region of a game and the "region" that formatted a memory card.

If i recall correctly, the media software on the PSX is not bilingual...

I can't remember!

but i'd assume Sony would have the system as bilingual from the off.

MS - i had no idea they were regioned

Well I'll be testing the OS functionality of the PSP in this upcoming week, so perhaps I can get back to you on that.
But considering PS2s already have multilanguage support in the system menus, I would be dissapointed if PSP didn't.

Where do you work??

I work for a game company in Korea.
Anyway, yeah given that the thing is out in two weeks, it won't be long before most of these are answered officially :)

Yeah, I know. I just have this penchant for being impatient. Combined with a strong curious streak, it's...difficult sometimes. :P If you could bookmark this thread and get back to it later this week, I'd be much obliged.
