Jason Schreier/Bloomberg: Game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to release dates on Fall 2025 because of GTA6

Anticipation is so high that some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for the fall, according to people familiar with their deliberations who asked not to be identified because they weren't authorized to speak publicly. The publishers want to see whether GTA 6 will make its deadline or slip into 2026, these people say, and they're determined to keep their own games far, far away.

Makes sense - Nobody wants to step in front of a goddamn missile.

I fully expect GTA6 to not delayed... Everything else around it will.

If Rockstar were nice, they’d announce for a July or August release, since those are historically some of the lightest months for big releases. Because frankly it doesn’t matter when they release GTA6, it could be released in of Octembruary and it’ll still sell 20 million copies.

The Horizon FW sequel is probably coming out on the same day.

It's going to be on every monthly sells chart for the next decade after release anyway. So why bother keeping track of release dates.

I hate this. Notice how many monthly releases we had in like.. 2011?
Multiple games come out each month. I don't give a fuck about gta and besides, I can buy multiple games every month

So, is the assumption that everyone who likes those developers would also play GTA? I'm sure there is a demographic that doesn't like GTA games that would be playing something else genre wise.

I mean I get it, just depends on the game that's being developed/released by other devs. Though I would say if I developed a new Tetris game and knew of a AAA Chess game coming out, I'd still be OK because not everyone likes Chess. Maybe that's a bad analogy, idk.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Yeah, this is not surprising at all.

Outside of extreme circumstances like mandates, no publisher would be foolish enough to launch in the same week(s) as GTA VI.

R* could release the game
On Christmas Day and gamers en masse would abandon their families to stand at GameStop or play their downloaded copy.

You're the minority.
Looking at this thread who in their right mind want to be a majority

I felt exactly the same way until I played RDR1 14 years ago.

I played the remaster last year, story was decent (probably good for the time) but the gameplay was as dull as it's ever been. GTA3 and Vice City was fun to mess around with for a couple hours back in the early 2000s, when the sandbox design was a new concept, but the mission design and actual gameplay has always felt terrible to me.
