Here's an interview he did on it

CS!: At one point, you mention that the fans are making rappers afraid to be themselves. Is that something you're going to work on?
Jay-Z: Yeah, that's my goal right there. Because all the real artists and the people that these guys look up to growing up have their vulnerable moments, but right now, it's so much pressure to have the hot single now and get the audience, so that no one is concentrating on the album.

CS!: Has the music business become too corporate?
Jay-Z: It's the business of music now, instead of the music business. Exactly. We're puttin' the carriage before the horse. We have to make music first and then everything else is a by-product of that, y'know?

CS!: What's going to happen when you become the head of Def Jam? They also have a big alt-rock market, what do you feel you can bring to them?
Jay-Z: I'm rock and roll, man. But that's not a done deal, y'know, it's just talks. We'll see what happens with that whole situation.I'm an artist across the board. I know what good music is no matter what. I believe in good music and bad music, and that's it. Bad music is bad in rock, is bad in bluegrass or whatever.

Krabump!

I saw it this weekend, and it was fucking awesome, imo. I'm a new Jay-Z fan, I will admit, but I'm familiar with all of his radio hits. Been getting into his albums in reverse order since I got them all recently. Black -> Blueprint 2 -> Blueprint -> Roc La Familia etc... Awesome shit. But I digress.

Fade to Black focuses on the concert in the Madison Square Garden, and the creation of the Black album. The concert bits were very well put together, and it was honestly a sight to see. Never thought a single hip-hop performer would be able to sell out MSG, it was amazing to see, and you can tell that that actually got to Jay by his expressions. Whodathunk a man selling drugs to get by would be able to turn around and not only have all that... but also be fucking Beyonce!? Jesus. Literally everyone came out to perform their collabos with him. Memph, Freeway, Beyonce, Ghostface (joined Beyonce for Summertime), Missy, Beanie Siegel. I was hoping to see Scarface and have them perform Guess Who's Back, but oh well.

I enjoyed seeing them work in the studio more. The best segment was the one with Timbaland. He ran through a couple of beats and Jay shrugged them off basically. The last one Tim had for him was the beat that turned into the beat for "Dirt Of Your Shoulder". The look on Jay's face was priceless. He damn near fell in love with it. Kanye, the Neptunes, and I think Just Blaze were in the flick. Ah, the sweet satisfaction of seeing how Allure came about... my favorite song off the album.

I thought it was a good flick, worth a view for any fan of hip-hop, but a must see for Jay fans.

Good to hear CK, I want to see the movie, but probably will wait until the DVD or watch it during a Matinee. Jay-Z is probably my favorite rapper, so I really want to see this flick.
