Jeph Loeb on Supergirl, her new series, and confusing origins. Oh, and short skirts.

Pretty interesting read, I guess, and I definitely agree with him on the last post-Crisis Supergirl. That whole "I'm a telekinetic shapeshifting construct from another dimension merged with a human girl and an angel" thing was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too confusing... and stupid, to be honest. Fanboys may not agree, but you've gotta admit things are better this way. Much simpler now.

Oh, and about the skirts:

...What does amaze me is the fascination online with the length of her skirt. If you go back and look at the earliest issues of Supergirl from the late fifties, Jim Mooney drew them as short as you can imagine and particularly for that time. Now, fast forward to the end of the Peter David run where one Supergirl meets another Supergirl [collected now as Mant Happy Returns] and Ed Benes had a festival of tiny. And hey, go to a local mall or turn on MTV. Her skirt isn't as outrageous as real life, I can promise you that! (laughs)...
Right now I'm not as concerned about the length of her skirt, as I am about the fact that it appears ready to fall off... and from the looks of things, she doesn't believe in undergarments.

Fanboys don't know JACK.

Ahem, seriously now, it was Peter David. I find that you either like him or you don't. I liked that run of Supergirl, though I did kind of lose touch with the title in the later issues.

But man, those early issues with Gary Frank looked so good. What the hell is Frank doing these days anyways? Seems like he dropped off the face of the earth. I'd rather see him on a SuperJailbait title than Churchill (who won't last more than a few issues! Mark my words!).

Yep, Batman's glower simmers with repressed homosexuality and upper crust disapproval, while Kal-El has a "Daddy liiike!" smirk going. Creepy! ;)

You seriously need to pick up Supreme Power. Gary Frank is awesome on that.

man I don't think I will ever understand the appeal of comic books, they seem so childish yet needlessly complicated.

now if you excuse me I am going to watch some DVDs of Japanese cartoons...

...That's his "O" face. Hard to tell, I know, but each grim face that Batman makes holds subtle variations that tell of his mood. Right now, he's polishing the Bat-pole like there's no tomorrow.

Why else do you think he wears that cape?

:D

Being serious for a second here, guys. Last night I had a thought. One of the defining moments of Crisis on Infinite Earths was the death of Supergirl. Now, another Crisis is upon us, and another Supergirl has appeared... is this Supergirl fated to die as well?
