Bird droppings incoming?

It's going to be pretty hilarious if it's said that BF4 on the PS4 is anything but 1080p. If 900p then all those giving Ryse a hard time and such will look silly and so on.

God I'm glad I have nothing to do but geek out tonight.

So they aren't even using the eRAM? Sounds like things should get better for the Xbox once the engines are made for next gen and not just ports. That's something, right?
Most likely just Gies not knowing how to word the technicalities.

It's extraordinarily unlikely that they flat-out aren't using the eSRAM for render targets... though that would possibly explain the supposed resolution difference between XBO and PS4, lol.

Honestly, I don't see the problem. No one can see the difference between 720p and 1080p - We're talking about a minuscule difference in pixels. It's obvious what Microsoft were trying to do and they achieved it; create a gaming machine that is extremely versatile with the right performance for the market. The Playstation 4 is just expensive and decadent, like a giant phallus symbol just reaching into the heavens. Barely half of that 8GB GDDR5 is even available to the developers -- All show, no go!

I honestly can't believe the fuss being kicked up about this. Microsoft still have amazing technologies like Kinect and stuff. Xbox is a great brand these days and no one really cares about Sony anymore so no matter who has the bigger numbers, Xbox will be the victor.

Yes, it means that by the time MS get games close to first generation games on the PS4, the PS4 will be releasing second generation games.

Not really. BF4 is a cross-gen multiplatform game. Ryse is a game that's supposed to be optimised for the XBOne architecture.

It is already being leaked that BF4 is also native 1080p on the PS4, though.

Isn't the "I blame MS" line a bit pointless? Who else could possibly be to blame?

Certainly for launch titles of this status. I mean you could see publishers not providing enough resources and/or time being major factors. But with launch titles thats mostly in the platform holders hands getting ready tools and dev kits in time for devs to work on the games in time.

I still find it really weird that Sony could be ahead of Microsoft in terms of the whole dev tools aspect. Devs Tools are their bloody bread and butter. Its one of their core strengths. Admittedly they are juggling a whole bunch of different platforms at the same time (though they are all based around the Win8 core), and they've been going through the whole restructure. But still.

I sure hope not. I don't want PS5 to suck. Tough competition can only be good for everyone.

assuming your talking about previous history PS3 didn't suck
outside the first 2 years

It has more exclusives and a wider range of games under it's belt than 360.

Question: how can Microsoft embargo a review for a game they didn't make? I thought that was up to IW/Activision? Even if it's their console?

I really hope this thread runs out of steam before the Dark Souls II beta starts tonight. But at the same time I want more truthfacts. Oh well, bring on the deaths I suppose.

"HD" started off with 720 Progressive and 1080p used to be known as Full HD. Unlike last gen, I very much doubt that any game will have a resolution below 720p on either platform. That said, given both resolutions are HD and everything in between is fair game, we may see Sony's first parties outputting titles that are below 1080p native, in the future.

My point is that drops in resolution are not prerequisite to achieve leaps in graphics fidelity throughout the course of a console's lifespan like you said.

PS1 had little competition, yet the PS2 became a runaway success. PS3 was simply an outlier that took place during rough times for Sony.

You are just quoting exceptions. How is competition a bad thing? It can only make things better for us, right? What's wrong in wanting it?

Internal competition has been driving Sony's standards up for years now. They don't need outside competition. All they need is a huge userbase to keep happy.

I don't know man. I don't know of many companies enjoying monopoly sustaining success for too long. To say they don't need outside competition is putting blind faith in a corporation. Monopoly always makes people complacent. Internal competition is good, but not as good as external competition.

Just how many "average gamers" are ponying up $399/$499 for launch day consoles anyhow? Not very many, I'd wager.
I'd suggest this is a poor wager. People lineup for Madden releases. They line up for the new Gears an Halo. Largely casual gamers who line up for re fanfare of it. To be the first on the block to have one.

My little brother and his friends -- who only play Gears and NBA 2K -- are lining up to get a One and can't be convinced otherwise. Why? Because it's familiar to them, because they want to continue to play Gears and Halo, and because they have a network of friends established already.

Some of you think people will jump ship just because there is less power. I say you're wrong. It's going to be about the games and where people can get the exclusive games ad experience they want. In addition to how important the community of online friends they have on LIVE is to them. I bet LIVE and those exclusives prove to have more pull than a resolution downgrade for many.

Your mileage may vary. I wouldn't recommend anyone get a One at launch until these questions are answered, but it won't stop people from lining up or liking what they see on demo kiosks.

Sites probably got hardware ahead of time and the embargo goes with that.

Cant review / comment on games running on the console until ___ date.

Break embargo and get cut off by MS.

I'm talking about the first 2 years. Sony lost so much ground in those 2 years. I don't want that to repeat. So I want competition.

I think 5 years ago you'd be right, but I wonder if a console monopoly is so scary now that PCs and iOSs are becoming enough of a threat to keep the console monopoly in check.

With a monopoly such as the PS2, you didn't have to question if you were making the right choice. You owned the system most of your friends had, and most multi platform games excelled past the Xbox/GameCube versions in terms of features.
