Jeremy Conrad (former IGN): BF4 and CoD: Ghosts are 720p on Xbone

I am surprised GAF hasn't mentioned Frames per second....most of you didn't care about 1080p, as long 720p was 60 fps.

So Xbone will either have 1080p with framerate locked at 30 or 720 locked at 60. (I doubt both) MS better change their strategy and use the device for what it was intended, selling movies.

Na-ah. They can tell!

So was Sony. Listening to game devs and not plugging ears up to common sense and logic, guess who's actually struck that balance and who didnt....

Your genius is showing through. Zip it up!!

So now 6 is half of 8? We've been failing our children ALL this time!

Yeah Lebron James and Kim K. are total nobodies....okay so Kim isn't talented but she has a great ass, so that makes her a somebody.

Define "victor". Better yet ask MS to define "victor", you might be surprised with their answer.

I guess your post could've been worst. It could've been on the first page; I'll just pretend it took 20 pages before the thread derailed into a console faceoff warzone.
You just wasted your time on a joke post, congrats!

It sounds like the OS issues ProElite mentioned are true. Some journos also posted some error codes on twitter. Basically expect the console to crash every couple of minutes even after the Day 1 patch. At least that's what it sounds like right now.

That can't be possible, it was beta tested in the future!

Looking to cancel my XB1 and pick up a PS4 now. Sad indeed for this Xbox guy. Fuck me though I didn't preorder a PS4. Doh!!!!!
I've got a $2,000 1080p projector so I'm not happy to hear about this 720p shit.
It's all about COD and BF lately but what is the resolution for AC4?

Mort said AC4 is likely 720p on X1, no comment on PS4 (I'm not that interested so I don't know if it's been stated yet).

I preordered both consoles and planned on canceling one. Been strongly in the PS4 camp since E3 and once MS backed off some of their stuff I was 60/40. The last few months have just affirmed that I'm going with the PS4 for now. Maybe I'll pick up a X1 when it drops the kinect and gets it shit together.

Search for #neogaf on twitter and prepare to read pages of xbox fan meltdown rants. So much hate for neogaf, the forum funded by sony, right now. It's hillarious.

Good man.

Ha ha!! Oh dear. A clear and obvious software downgrade of arguably the biggest title in gaming on the machine that cost 80 quid more. MS done f**ked up good this time. If Activision of all publishers couldn't close that resolution gap then that says a lot. 720p to 1080p... man, that's a doozy right there.

Don't know why everyone is making such a big fuss about this, All you have to do is sit further away from your tv, problem solved. You can't see the difference between 1080p and 720p anyways. 1080p is just a marketing ploy like 4k.

You can fit much more on 1080 and 4k.

Does your employer give you a vision plan ?

So you're saying you still believe it's running at a resolution greater than 720p?

What I'm saying is that it'd be counterintuitive from a PR perspective to embargo a review because of something Microsoft will view as negligible. Their position would be that (a) their games look great regardless, and that (b) the console is capable of 1080p and will see more 1080p games in the future.

Trying to keep this all a secret by delaying the reviews would only heighten the exposure and portray it to be a greater issue than it is.

Add to this that there is an alternative theory for the delay that seems far more plausible. We have to realise that aside from this, there has been a greater narrative on forums like Neogaf over the past few months that the Xbone is inferior specwise. This rumour in itself is having so many threads not because the games may be 720p, but that rather it acts as evidence to that original narrative. It is the same talk we had six years ago. The PS3 has had the better looking exclusives, but it was the price difference that ultimately decided the course of that console war - the same as it always has been.

Man, I have to go out to meet some friends, but I am so eager to see if we will get more juicy details that I am getting late.

Come on guys, the Xbone is so worth the $500 just for all the comedy it provided this year. Overdeliverying on value big time!

2. The entire idea of having an embargo against the resolution of these games seems a bit odd. It would have to be based on the assumption that such a revelation would have a significant impact on pre-orders. I'm not convinced that resolution differences and even frame rate is a factor in the eyes of the mass public, certainly not a factor equal to that of the general impression of how good a game looks. Unless these multiplatform games will have a night and day difference to the point that anyone passing a kiosk will be able to recognise, then this discussion - outside the hardcore crowd - is completely irrelevant.

Because the mass public is buying a 500$ console at launch and not the hardcore? Seems pretty straightforward to me. Enthusiasts normally try to learn about what they are enthusiastic about.

How is this surprising really? Go play games with a 6770-7770 and tell he what you have to do to keep it at 60fps.

Either you kill the detail, AA, etc. or you lower the resolution a ton and then turn a few things on.

720p no AA is the sweet spot and can go to maybe high detail on most games. Not Ultra though.

7850 - 7870 is diff story. Can stay 1080p and just lower detail a little and keep AA or kill AS and go to Ultra.

My guess is PS4 = 1080p x 60fps with no AA and Ultra detail. X1 = 720p x 60fps no AS on High detail

I wonder how involved the execs were, in the whole DRM disaster.

They have probably been a central role on every front. If they were the ones that have botched the specs, they're clearly the ones who pushed for DRM. I assumed they finally caved after they realized their views on DRM would not be accepted.

And I'm sure if these guys somehow still have their jobs years from now, they'll try again with a different angle.

I do not understand how a longer embargo than the other version because there are bad news about a game is not morally reprehensible. Someone said the problem with the gaming journalism is that it isn't actually journalism but neutral flavored PR and i kinda agree with him. Wth..

It's exactly what it is. All these "journalists" do is either review games or show previews and talk about games. They're just vehicles for PR

It really sounds like removing DRM was indeed not as easy as just flipping a switch. This late decision probably destroyed the entire schedule for the poor engineering team and now after they removed the DRM there is not enough time to finish other parts of the OS. Now they are trying to scramble everything together somehow.

That can't be right. Insane if true. MS had better start mailing out those cheques right about now.

I was told 900p ... if its 1080p oh boi...

Theres definitely a quality advantage on PS4 but its not something huge like some dudes want it to be

I don't expect it to be huge for 3rd party games just a few things better .
1st party on the other hand is what i looking forward to .
