Jeremy Conrad (former IGN): BF4 and CoD: Ghosts are 720p on Xbone

I'm sure glad I canceled my Xbone pre-order. I decided to cancel it prior to the COD 720p bomb the other day. Simply because I couldn't be arsed to pay that much for a system when 99% of the games I buy in a single year are third party plats. But holy hell. From an investment stand point, I don't even know how Xbox fans can buy this at launch.

Fanboys will defend anything.

nah, i cant convince my friends (and myself, i really want to play ki and cimson dragon) to cancel their pre-orders based on rumor/leak/whatever. i "thrust" cboat, but i want more information before i drive my friends crazy.

Well, launch is still a few weeks away and I'm sure we'll hear more soon. The embargo on Xbox One game reviews will apparently lift on Nov. 12th, that's when we should know more. But like I said, I'd cancel the pre-order and wait how things play out over the course of the next few months. It your money of course, but it wouldn't be the first time early adopters get screwed over.

You need HDMI to get 1080p on the 360, it wouldn't do 1080p unless it went through HDMI. Component only went up to 1080i or 720p

I don't think you can get 1080p through a console on a TV with component.

The original units didn't have an HDMI slot. They sold, I forget what it's called, but what you use to hook up a PC to a monitor cable that gave you 1080p. The newer units have HDMI I think.

Well, they proved you can make a powerful machine (by console standards) without breaking the bank. You just have to focus your budget on what really matters, instead of multi million nfl deals and a stupid camera no one cares about. If they had took the budget placed on kinect and used it on better hardware, they wouldn't be in this situation.

Bingo! I mean they spent 500 million on the controller redesign ......... I don't see where the money went.

The full ad so people can stop stupidly using it. This is one of the few taglines they've used that make sense:

I think everyone severely underestimated what Mattrick leaving actually meant for the Xbox division. I firmly he left out of choice, and because he saw exactly what was going to happen when this console launched this November. Instead of being on the sinking ship when it went down, he decided to bail out well before.

Smart decision, smart man.
It is eerily similar to what Tom Kalinske did w/ Sega shortly after the Saturn came out, but it's still too early to say if this is Saturn 2.0...

Quite a few parallels, tho.

some TV's accept 1080p through component. My Samsung does anyway

At this point, would it be inconceivable for MS to scrap their launch date and release early next year with updated (re: fixed) hardware?

Crazy question, I know.
But looks like a better, albeit VERY EXPENSIVE option if these rumblings are true.

Better to start later and do better this new gen than limp though it, yes?

Only time this matters is for exclusive titles. Third party still had to build products on different architectures in the console world same as PC world.

It is the 720p x 900p stuff for exclusives that should be extra worrisome

The crazy thing about COD is that it looks awful

There's no way KI should be 720 in order to hit 60fps

I think I've figured out a way MS could save face here, hear me out a minute.
They make every game on their platform free, you see, and then they reimburse the publisher/developers the full cost of the game every time its downloaded. Us XB1 users are happy, the devs get their hard earned money, and MS learns a very important lesson. Unfortunately, whilst bankrupting them as well, but that's not our concern.

You are protected so long as what you are saying is provably true.

Sadly, that's not the case at all. There's NDAs and contracts and such that people sign to not talk about this stuff.

It's specifically an issue for CBoaT, considering leaks have come from the butt train since freaking 2005. If they find out who it is, that's industry blackball punishment coming down the pipe.

Understandable, but unfortunate. Not being informed about significant problems could also cause problems for those getting ready to lay down $500+ for this thing.

This is the sad other side of the coin too. But it's apparently bad. CBoaT used to post, what, a couple of times a year, maybe? Now it's all over. And Bish seems to be steeling himself for a colossal mess or something.

Dude, they f**king ninja'ed them. Kaz Hirai in action. The best part is he faked them out in an interviewed with The Times where he said he would never launch before MS.

Kaz's fake out

Then they go and announce in Feb. That's proper console warfare right there.

Dude, its all coming together. There were whispers that MS intended to launch in 2014 and another member posted that big titles like GT6 going to PS3 instead of next gen threw MS off Sony's scent. Thanks for sharing.

More like Don Mattrick left because of he knew it was a sinking ship, and the only way to redeem himself is to jump into another sinking ship that has already sunk so he won't get blamed for it.

Agreed. Or may be he was asked to leave, and they made it seem like a resignation, to save face. I can easily see Ballmer blowing a gasket if he had foreseen how this was going to go down.

Bummer. Hoping this is more development tools, but this big of a difference in resolution is concerning to say the least. Cod and bf4 should be bread and butter for xbox.

Meh, I will continue to hope for great software, and a price drop.

The thing with PS3 though is that Sony didn't really have that clear policy reversal like Microsoft did with the DRM and such. They kept at it for a couple years, if memory serves. It was a rough ship to sail.

What clear policy reversal did they need other than getting the PS3 price equal with the 360?

There were some dumb pr quotes defending the price, but it's not like those were so public mainstream news was reporting it, like they were for the DRM.
