Haha, right up there with the re-boxing one!

Holy crap, I've just worked it out.

Kinect is mandatory.
You must be several feet away from TV to use Kinect.
That distance is about the same distance from where you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p?

Not that they're having trouble selling PS4s, but Sony needs to spread the damn word. CoD at 1080p, on a $100 cheaper console.

Christ, MS fumbled big time.

I know that IW has a huge task this year. Without the help of Sledgehammer and Raven, pushing out a game for 6 platforms isn't easy. But yet, the engine is based off Quake 3...and that is old tech which should run fine. And by looking at the PC specs, IW needs some major optimization
I would guess that there arent much left in the engine from how it was in its original form (how the Quake 3 engine was many, many years ago).

"this rumor started on neoGaf" If you haven't noticed by being on that site, they love PS, and love to bash xbox one, I think both consoles will run at 720p, since CoD isn't in it for the graphics, they just want people to buy the game and play multiplayer, if one runs 1080p tho, the other will to, Since both can run Native 1080p anyone saying they can't are uninformed or PS fanboys.

lolo

What do you expect from Xbone GPU. It is 7790@850 Mhz. It is a 3 year old GPU. Every major engine has already used that GPU and we have seen consistent performance. There is no real game that can deliver 1080p on such a low powered GPU.

Don't forget that it's a dedicated console. Developers can optimize to a point where you can get what you want.
A comparision to a PC rig isn't valid because of the OS that runs on a PC, in this case (for COD), Windows, which is a major bottleneck

interesting how this is being picked up from the investment side. i haven't seen it on any of the gaming sites.

If there's one thing about video games that average investors understand, it's that Call of Duty is a big deal.

people are already writing articles about it, i accidentally found this on yahoo, wasnt even looking for it.

i hope that sites not a banned one? Wont it not post and get all messed up if it is though?

Oh man this clearly is not just "Gaf Sony hivemind obsession". Those articles and articles that will be written in the next couple of weeks will be seen by tons of potential casual buyers. Microsoft has one huge pr nightmare coming up...

Edit: Quoting this for emphasis. When investor sites pick up stuff in the video game industry you know it's not good.

Oh boy. Wait till you hear about the OS on this thing...

I would guess that there arent much left in the engine from how it was in its original form (how the Quake 3 engine was many, many years ago).

Even though the engine is much more evolved (and we can see it), I bet you can still find some code made by Carmack, and he hasn't touched the engine in 6 years

Someone did this? Who?

There was a post earlier in this same thread with a tweet in which he says something like: "When the biggest MS fanboy that writes for a site says the situation is bad, than its really bad" or something like that. Seems like an obvious implication of who that is (Gies/Polygon).

I think you over estimate the average person's understanding of HD. Microsoft's marketing push will drown out any concerns.

Dunno about you guys but I think 79 people dying is hilarious.

no, there are no sub 1080p confirmed on PS4.
Well, not to start that debate again, but there's The Order which will be 1920x800, with 280 lines of black pixels.

I have a feeling some of the Japanese launch games will be 720p (I think media for Deep Down and Yakuza have been).

Oh, so it's confirmed, I guess? Well, I'm at least curious and interested in BF4, but I more than likely wasn't going to grab COD regardless. 720p is no doubt a little embarrassing if the competition is at higher or 1080p, but it's also not the end of the world. As long as they make sure the games look good. And, make no mistake, for being 720p they almost certainly better look damn good. :)

Do you really think the issue is just about the resolution? From what Bish said, there seem to all other issues at play here.

So is Pennello going to give his apology or not? I remember him asking if GAF would apologize if there weren't significant differences "besides 1 or 2 fps" between the two consoles.
I don't know if he did - but if he did then it wasn't wrong. They run at the same FPS just at different resolution!

If the difference between the consoles is basically resolution, than is irrelevant for the mass market.

maybe 900 vs 1080p, but I don't think the mass market will brush aside 720 vs 1080p at a $100 premium for the 720 version. If this becomes the norm, then XB1 is in trouble as far as 3rd party titles are concerned.

As i said earlier, the silver lining may be that the only way out of this mess is to secure many more exclusives and heavily invest in first party development again.
