Yes, every scene that didnt have Mario (bob hoskins?) or Jet Li kicking ass was kind of slow. But MY GOD. The fights were just fucking crazy!

The opening scene.
The pit fight.
The fight with the bald white guy in the bathroom.

My GOD! The other parts of action were great but these three were something freaking special.

Like in the pit fight, Jet Li goes off on this chick he's fighting. He fucking gets her on the ground and starts elbowing the shit out of her! At one point, he missing an elbow and slips, but then he CLIMBS back on her, and starts elbowing her again! FUCK YEAH!

Or the bathroom fight. HOLY FUCK. That fight just would not end. Bald guy and Jet Li just kept going back and forth. Sooo fucking cool. The sounds, the grunts, the hits, that shit was insane.

And just so no one comes back and says that it doesnt have enough action, I'll show you how the movie goes now.

FIGHTS.....cool ass british shit..........morgan freeman and white chick (slow part)........some story.......................................MORE FIGHTS!

Go see this movie! And if you dont like fights, go see it anyway! I mean, its a fucking GOOD american Jet Li movie.

The copious amounts of elbowage have convinced me to go see this tonight. I will have to endure a Friday crowd, but maybe they won't suck as much as usual...

I really want to see this, but the movie theatre is like an hour away from me and I'll have to endure until it is out on video -- ARfGhghffh!! >,",<

EDIT: Do we get to see Jet Li's ass in it? I heard you get to see his ass.

Morgan Freeman seems SO OUT OF PLACE in this kind of movie.

That being said, I'm still probably going to see it. It's been a while since I've seen a good ass-kicking movie.

I've come up with a new way of reviewing movies based solely on seeing the trailer. In this case I give the movie a thumbs down based on a ridiculous plot and bad acting.

I don't know. He doesnt say anything and he didnt look like someone I've seen in a martial arts movie before. All I know is that he's tall, slick, and can REALLY fight well in small spaces.

Oh, and another thing. YOU CAN SEE THE FIGHTS! Pretty much no awful fucking camera work. Close up, but clear and not jumping all over the place. Very well done.

So, who plays "bald white guy"? Sounds like he earns a mention.

Bob Hoskins

Enemy at the Gates
Don Quixote TV
Michael
Super Mario Bros
Hook

You should know him from Who Framed Roger Rabbit

:lol

When I was talking about Hoskins / SUPER MARIO, I knew who he was. The bald guy I'm talking about is just some no name dude who gives Jet Li the best fight in the movie.

Oh yeah, I know about Bob Hoskins... I'm assuming we're talking about a younger/fitter fighter who takes on Jet Li, I think I might have seen a snippet of that fight in the trailer...

Edit: as Bob said

The bald white guy is Mike Lambert. he's been working in Hong Kong movies for years. He fought Jet in Black Mask (think of the fight where Jet used loads of stop kicks), he taught Anthony Wong TKD as well.

You gotta show up to those early. And also, they prefer you to be white. I'm not joking. I used to work for marketing company that did those.

Heh, I actually heard some rumors about that. Didn't know what believe though...

That's funny - I once went to an advance screening of Romeo Must Die - I don't think I saw one white person there. Half the audience was black and the other half was asian.

I wonder how they felt that night.

They probably were required by the movie studio to redo that screening. I remember them doing "The Prince and Me" like over a dozen times just to get the right marketing research numbers.

This movie was awesome.

The shocking thing about it was that I actually LIKED every single protagonist in this movie. Usually I couldn't give a shit less, especially for an action movie. But this was just phenomenal.

Will definitely be owned on DVD.

The action was lacking.
The drama parts were pretty good though. Very heartwarming (although not too sappy) and funny. I didn't know Jet Li could act. He was quite convincing.

Ironically, I think this movie would've been better if it wasn't an action movie.
They had a pretty interesting, though incredibly farfetched, concept...

Yeah, it's no Wong Fei Hung... but I really like his

"WAAAAAA *punch* *punch* *punch* *punch**punch* *punch* *punch* *punch* *punch**punch* ..." stuff

Oh, and the sappy parts were pretty good. Predictable and cliche, but Jet Li put on a good performance - very convincing with the innocence.

So it's better than Ong Bak?

It just cant equal the elbowage in Ong Bak, I have never seen so many elbows to various parts of the body. Ong Bak also features kicking a guy through a glass window, then jumping through the window after him and beating his ass on the way down.

But I gotta check this new Jet movie out

Damnit there was a pile of Unleashed posters lying around in the cinema when I came out of Ong Bak. I threw the one I took away outside because I'd never heard of it. Gonna check this out though.

The poster made me wtf though, it had a picture of a girls foot on Li's head. :lol

Some of the choreography was pretty good (namely against white guy in white), but overall I don't think it was up to some of yuen wo ping's other stuff. The scenes with lesser foes reminded me of '70s Bruce Lee movies with stiffs quarterheartedly approaching the protagonist so that they can be annihilated. And stiffs they were. I dunno, I'm sure I've become jaded to a degree, but if there are going to be lots of thug destroying scenes I'd rather they get creative like in something like Ong-Bak (though of course that has some terrible choreography as well here and there, but you get my point).

The story I liked well enough; I don't think bob hoskins' character really hit the psychology on the mark, but Jet and braces girl were a likable duo.
