Overall, Carmack said he simply "wearied of the fight" with Meta, formerly known as Facebook, which acquired Oculus in 2014.

Huge loss for an already overwhelmingly struggling company.

I think he is a genius, but a sociopath that may work as a CTO or top dog coder in a small to medium studio, but seeing and hearing him in that podcast with really nothing really good to say about anyone during his time at Id, well… not sure he works well with peers, but in his new company he may best placed for his genius to be productive.
