I'll be there day one to see this. Hopefully the soundtrack is as good as the first one, and not lame like in this trailer.

Delicious.
Stopped the trailer as soon as this scene came up. I already knew I was going to watch it as soon as it was announced, don't want to spoil anymore scenes now/make the wait even harder.

Probably going the route of Taken sequels in terms of quality. I'll wait for GAF opinion this go around. The original setup was half of what made it so good.

Dear lord this looks soooooo fucking gooood. I just don't understand these people, why the hell would you go after someone nicknamed the fucking Boogeyman lol. This is going to be so damn good.

He was never nicknamed the Boogeyman.... He is the one you sent to kill the FUCKING Boogeyman.

Now you say 'oh'

The worldbuilding was great, but it wrapped John's motivation pretty fucking succinctly. For how minimal that first movie was, it had a genuine drive behind it. Not sure how you repeat that without a wildly different premise.
Depends who he killed in the first movie tonpiss off this villain. Would be fucking hilarious if Wick murderised a fucking jobber to set this one up.

The first one was incredible sad. This one seems to be dedicated entirely to high octane action- I have no problem with that. The first movie stands on it's own. The second one can have a tonal shift from Wicks motivation being concentrated from depressed-revenge, to angry or even sadistic revenge.

What I look for in action movies is that the film is good at what it sets out to do. It's okay to have a HEAT where the standout is one or two action sequences. The rest of that film is carried by sublime acting and directing.
It's just as okay to have a Raid where the plot boils down to "get to the top and kill the final boss". That film didn't waste time with poorly acted romantic subplots, unnecessary comic relief character, token fan serviced stereotypes and so on.
John Wick was on the lighter side of plot, but I was completely invested when the dog is killed and it set me up for feeling what John Wick was feeling. I was watching that film thoroughly enjoying the vengeance taking place.

This film could risk going through what TAKEN 2 went through where it's a repeat of the same thing. It shouldn't be like that. It should be; John Wick is a retired assassin who got his revenge and killed everybody. It will be a TAKEN 2 if he gets a new dog and that one gets killed too. But if it deals with him post the first film, what the hell is there to do?
Your wife and dog died and it was affirmed that you couldn't really escape your past. Settling down is pointless. Being emotionally numb you really might as well just keep killing until you yourself is put down. It's the post-Casino Royale limbo mode. Casino Royale is the best James Bond because that is the film that gets the character development and reasons why James Bond is James Bond and why he is what he is. The sequels tried to put in other angles like his friends (QoS), his parents (Skyfall) and his relationship with his boss (Spectre). The other films cannot reach the same heights as there is less to work with.
When you show animals dying- Particularly cute animals that is one of the most powerful incentives you can use to make an audience care. If you remember Tony Jaa in Tom Yum Goong, that film also took another dimension once animal trafficking became a part of the film. It elevated it to something more.

It will be interesting to see. The technical prowess here looks to be as solid as the first film so I am really looking forward to it, but I don't expect anything other than being entertained, where as the first film made me really really sad.

what movie started that "teaser to the trailer before the actual trailer" thing on youtube ?

because I HATE this shit

Thanks to this thread I now get how movies like Tremors could have so many sequels.

Trailer didn't do much for me. The hokey music didn't help. This ain't F&F. I'll wait for the critical reception and general impressions, since no trailer can sell or unsell me on this movie.

What's Bill Trinen doing with his tongue?

2017 promises to be great for genre movies, yes.
Though it will be great for action games as well with games like Nier Automata and Nioh.

2016 was a superb year for horror movies, off the top of my head:
the witch
the wailing
Green Room (well kinda)
They Look Like People
evolution
don't breathe
under the shadow
the eyes of my mother
Train to Busan (kinda)

were all good to great.

And then Without Name which looks amazing but i still have to see.
