I thought this was a joke thread going into it. He's a lawyer, therefore (for the most part) I don't have much respect for him, but he's human like anyone else, so it's too bad he died. I wonder what he died of, didn't seem that old.

Bummer. Despite my disdain re: his involvement in the OJ and Sprewell fiascos, he was a pretty interesting guy. Shame for his family.

edit: it's on the front page of msnbc.com

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Lawyer Johnnie Cochran, who famously defended actor O.J. Simpson, has died aged 67 at his home in Los Angeles, CNN confirms

Damn what's gonna happen to his DC law firm?!?!?!?

Keeping with all the great things he's done, like getting a murderer to walk the streets and to basically create a racial case where there was none. I say that this is a case of murder...God had something to do with this. Let's put God on trial and let's make him try and prove that he doesn't hate black people. Johnnie...I promise I will keep the flames of hate alive!!!

1. chewbacca defense
When you use a totally bullshit argument that has absolutley nothing to do with the case. This term comes from the popular TV show South Park
I hope Johnny Cochdoesn't use his famous Chewbacca Defense.... This is Chewbacca, Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee - an eight foot tall Wookiee - want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! What does that have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! None of this makes sense. If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests. DAMNIT!

I don't like the fact that Cochran let a murderer go... and yes, I'll call OJ a murderer all I want since I think he did kill those 2 people...

But Cochran wasn't the cause of all the racial problems that occured during the Simpson case. He was OJ's lawyer, and all he did was his job. The racial problems occured not because of Cochran, but because people are fucking stupid.

EDIT: Damn, scoot. I was just about to mention the Chewbacca case!"

"That does not. Make. Sense!"

You're high on illegal drugs if you don't think race played a *huge* part in the OJ trial.

All those lawyers are going to lose their job! Let's start a paypall fund for their kids!

This cheers me up though! :lol

OJ got off because of the complete and utter incompetence of the prosecution. But, at least among the jury, race did play a part and the illegal drugs have nothing to do with it. :p

You're right, I'm sorry. The opportunity was just there!

I don't really like Cochran, but I don't really hate him either. Sucks that he died, I wouldn't have wished it on him, but ultimately I'm kind of indifferent.

Cochran's a lawyer that let a murderer walk free. Well, somoeone a lot of people think is guilty. So he's not real popular with some people, and I guess I understand their sentiment. But I like Cochran b/c he was a good lawyer and a savvy guy. IMO, he came out of nowhere and made his celebrity with the OJ case, and did such a good job that he gets a lot of respect. It sucks about the tumor and all. I just heard about this a few minutes ago. Out of the blue. :( R.I.PEACE.

I'm pretty sure God's coming for you next judging by your comments in this thread. RIP.

Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense!
Why would a Wookiee -- an eight foot tall Wookiee -- want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!

But more importantly, you have to ask yourself: what does that have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense!

Look at me, I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense.

And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation... does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense.

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests.

I am no fan of lawyers, but Johnnie was a master of the trade. Not only did he know his stuff, but he was entertaining to watch! How often can you say that about a lawyer?

There were 18 people in the obits for the local newspaper in the town I live in today, I didn't know any of them.

Not 1 of them used a court case to protect a man they knew/figured was guilty or murder as a stage to boost their own career into the spotlight.

Hopefully those 18 people R.I.P. and passed away peacefully, if Johnnie Cochran did know he set a murderer free in exchange for his own selfish chance for the spotlight then I hope the cat in the hat style lawyer suffered excruciating pain for long periods before his death.

He's no hero, he's what's wrong with america's judicial system.

My Aunt died of a tumor in the brain last year... it is painful, and far from peaceful. She was about the same age as Johnnie. Wishing for a painful death, for someone you don't know, or even know much about outside of one "case" seems quite lame and ignorant.

I think you missed my point entirely, I'm sorry to hear about your aunt, really.
But all these 'best wishes' for a man with no morals is surprising.

He made his bed, now he has to lie in it. (pun intended)

If you don't want to wish him well in his passing that's fine.. no one is forcing you to do so. But to wish a painful death on someone you don't know, or has done nothing to you, in my opinion, is outlandish.
