Joss told the world he will not be writing and directing “X3.” “After looking deep into my heart,” he confessed to thousands over a conference call, “I realized that Fox did not ask me to write and direct ‘X3’.”

Good. I like his work on Astonishing X-Men, but his live action stuff never tickles me.

that sentence does not make any sense to me. maybe i don't know enough backstory to this. after looking into my heart, i realized they never asked me? can anyone explain what the hell he's talking about?

Apparently, the only way he could direct or write is to force his clout on FOX. Meaning, that eventually, they probably would let him direct/write, but do so reluctantly. And he's not their first choice.

I guess he wants them [FOX] to go after him.

I just looked up his name on imdb and apparantly he wrote Alien: Resurrection.

So......this is good news, right? :)

iirc, he pretty much blames it on the director and studio.

three cheers for the firefly movie.

Aw come on, Alien Ressurection has the same feel as a Buffy or Angel show.

Completely dumb.

I'd usually defer to Willco's judgement here but I'll give my theory anyway:

I think he was joking. Was it ever confirmed he was a possiblity? To me it reads as something of a tease - 'yeah I thought long and hard about it and struggled to come to a conclusion... but they didn't even ask me.' Why would he think a lot about it if he wasn't even asked? That's sort of the joke... Am I making any sense? It's bloody hard to describe what I mean :lol

As for the Alien Ressurection thing, supposedly he wrote a treatment of the next Alien, and then were like, it's great, but put Ripley in it. Thus, he wrote the shitty cloning shit. He also said he had another way to bring her back, but they said it was too complicated. So...yeah

Regardless of the joke, he's still not writing or directing. The gist of it, to me at least, is he couldn't direct or write anything that he wasn't ask to do.
