I have been thinking about picking up a japanese ps2 but I have heard newer models can't play all games. Are there any versions I should avoid?

Also does anyone have some recommendations on ps1 or ps2 worth importing?

uh this is certainly the first I've heard of it. I really don't think that's true.

Anyway, based on that list, I think your priorities should be Espgaluda and IIDX-whatever (basically working your way down the list, skipping 9th and 5th, should be fine).

There's like 6 games out of 1000 it doesn't play. Trust me, it's not an issue. The only game you would even have heard of on it is Tekken 5's Tekken 3. (The rest of the game is fine)

dog$, what's wrong with 9th? I haven't played in a long time so I don't know what's happened to IIDX.

Oh nothing drastic, in fact 9th looks better than 3rd-8th with how they upped the resolution of everything.

I'm just basing that off of personal opinion of songs; to me, 9th has a lot of songs that either I'm not very fond of or are just garbage entirely (Love is Drowing, Silvia Drive).

Nice list, though Twinkle Star Sprites and Imashime aren't really "must-have" but rather "nice to own" games. Otherwise the rest of the stuff in your list is pretty top-notch.

There's also a bunch of more Japanese-heavy games if you're up for them. Most are rpgs, but then there's stuff like Oz (awesome action/adventure title) and Ryu Ga Gotoku (same).

Go with IIDX (following dog$ advice about the styles isn't a bad idea), but also look into Earth Defense Force 2. There was a thread here about it a bit ago.
