Looks like the ps2 makes a bit of a comeback this week. Looks like we may get a couple of games over 100K this week. And is it me, or is there an increase to the number of Gundam games coming out. We had One Year War not that long ago which sold well below exectations. Wonder how this one did. Oh, and Brain Training really is a monster, fresh from taking down Drag On Dragoon 2, it has now possibly overtaken Mushiking.

Excellent, it's time to order both brain training games. I presume this one is half price as well? any impressions?

Word from retailers is that most shops are getting really cagey and ordering lower quantities than the last few months. As a result, a lot of the new titles are sold out at small retailers, including Oz, Genji and Gundam. Some stores reported about 50% more requests than they ordered for Gundam... I guess One Year War really tainted retailers' image of what a Gundam game can sell.

As an aside, I bought a replacement PStwo for my friend in the States today, so PS2 sales+1 for this week :)

What's gental brain training? What's the difference between this one and the other one?
That one stresses logical, deductive thought; this one lateral, inductive thought.

I'm not certain what age group it's targeted at. I remember someone saying it would be easier for kids than adults.

Hmm, interesting. Oz got screwed pretty badly. I'd expect below 20k sales on first day and below 30k for the weekend. Adventure Player looks like it did pretty terrible. Probably about 1-3k. Gundam being #1 is a pretty big surprise considering the low review scores and bad sales of Namco's One Year War. I guess Japan really is sick of OYW games, and is willing to buy anything Gundam that isn't OYW. Hard to guess sales, but if it's like most rpgs it should do about 100-130k at the end of the weekend. Genji doing less than that just means they won't hit their 500k prediction at all. Most likely will do about 200k at best.

Hopefully the good Gundam sales will convince Bandai to give a higher budget to the team next time they want to do an rpg.

OK, some rough figures for first day sales have come out.
Kagerou 2, Genji and Gundam all did about 50,000.
Onihama Pachislot did about 30,000.
Marheaven did about 20,000.

No others are listed.

Oh shit, bomba bomba. The console market really is struggling right now in Japan. Also seeing as Gentle Brain Training did over 20K on the first day it looks like it could be on par with the first brain training which is gonna mean that the DS will cruise though the next month.

Wow this must be the lowest the DS has been in along time. To bad about Genji. It just goes to show that the Japanese is a declining market. Not to say that you can't make a healthy profit off it. You pretty much know what they are going to buy. Mario, RPG's, Anime, and some other Nintendo games.

Or it goes to show you that:

A) Okamoto was wrong to leave Capcom.
B) He was even more wrong to rip off a Capcom game.
C) The Onimusha style games are in trouble sales wise.

Dont get me wrong... I'm all for him taking the money hats from sony, etc. However, to be fair, I think he should have been much more original with his first project.

the new brain streching game is awesome by the way.

The billiard game is okay too.

as for Genji/Oz... did we really need more slash action games?

Uh, Thursday is the day pretty much all games are released in japan. :lol

RE: Oz; We do need more slash action games if they bring something new to the table and refresh the genre :) People on 2ch are called Oz the next ZoE2 as in it will never sell but gamers are lucky it was made.

OK, I'm going to buy Oz next week. I swear I've almost finished Chibi Robo now... (20 hrs in! how the hell did you finish it in 15, Bebpo?)

okay, i think i'm gonna give Oz a whirl too! :)

i can't stop singing the title track from "gentle brain training"

i'm really enjoying the game too - it's stopping me playing Advance wars!

If I was only going to get one of the two brain training games, which would you recommend?

the japanese are really enjoying these brain workouts!

i hope nintendo translate them, i'd could do with a bit of a brain tune up... :D

Even Wario snuck back in. And Brain training will probably be numbers 1 and 2 in another couple days. They just need to release one of those every 4 or 6 months, maybe throw in a new color, and they'll continue to dominate over there. Incredible.

It is pretty incredible. Very strange. I never would have thought it would be doing so well thanks in part to games like this.

But it's all Nintendo. I don't see no 3rd party NDS software up there? That's not good Ninty.

Er, what big/awesome 3rd party games have been released lately to be in the top 20?

heavenly said:
Gundam, perhaps?

Goemon, maybe?

Gundam came out a month ago or so. How often do titles stay on the charts that long in general? How long does a PSP title stay on the charts at all, let alone a third party one? Please, quit trying to spin anything related to the NDS situation in Japan as less than extraordinary.

Well, it takes time before you get some real awesome 3rd party games that are at the same level as Nintendo games. Just look at the GBA games in the top 20.

Why bring up PSP? Did I mentioned PSP? Gundam and Goeman was supposed to do good numbers. Well, did it?

What would you consider awesome 3rd party games? The same ol' milking of popular franchises?

Nintendo hasn't really put forth their best effort yet, imo (w/ the exception of Nintendogs...which is a non-game to most people here, and Kirby). Other than that...Nintendo has really been coasting until they get some real quality software out there.

I look at some of those games and non-games that Nint has already put on the DS and see how great they're selling and wonder how come the 3rd parties couldn't put out these kinds of games before them? Is it that they didn't believe non-games and tech demos would sell?

Look dude. The good 3rd party games are about to come. For example, Scratch! Viewtiful Joe. And some more.

And what if that doesn't sell? You're going to hit me w/ the same excuse? Was not Goemon a good 3rd party game?

I would like to remind you that free trolling is not really allowed here :P at least if you believe the new "enforced" policy

Oh and please, DC does a better job at it than you are, let the pros handle the DS bashing

Well, yeah. Who says Goemon didn't sell well? It's just not in the top 20 thanks to all those crazy PS2 titles (and Nintendogs and Brain Training).

Goemon is more or less a dead franchise in japan, not because the last goemon sucks, but because the ten goemons prior (on PS/PS2/GBA) DID suck

Who's bashing or trolling? Stop being so overly sensitive.

But it doesn't bode well for the title if it's not in the top 20 dailies for the week. It's not like it's going to magically appear in the top 10 or something when Media Crates list their statistics.
