Netflix announced it will premiere “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday,” starring Paul Reubens as the odd and exuberant titular character, exclusively in all of its territories. No debut date is set, but production is slated to begin early this year.

The pic, originally in development at Universal, is being produced by Judd Apatow (“Anchorman,” “Bridesmaids”) and Reubens. “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday” is helmed by John Lee (“Broad City,” “Inside Amy Schumer”), marking his feature-film directorial debut. Reubens and Paul Rust (“Arrested Development,” “Inglourious Basterds”) wrote the script.

In “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday,” a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee to take his first-ever holiday in an “epic story of friendship and destiny,” per Netflix.

“We didn’t hesitate for a moment knowing that ‘Pee-wee’s Big Holiday’ was such a passion project for Paul and Judd and we are delighted by the opportunity to introduce such a beloved character to a new generation,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said.

So I guess people still care about Pee Wee? Even though I grew up watching the show I have to say I do not.

Will see even if it gets bad reviews.

Hopefully it doesn't co-star Franco or Rogan. There's just some things you don't mix with The Herman.

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.
Awesome news. Pee wee is my sons favourite show, maybe we will get more episodes after the movie?

I wonder if Big Adventure has been successful on Netflix that lead to this. I just watched it a few weeks ago on there.

I recall Netflix mentioning the viewers of Pee-wee's Playhouse tv series on Netflix were way above expectations. I think that is the main reasoning behind them going after the film.

I have no idea who Judd Apatow is, what Arrested Development is, don't have Netflix, but it's more Pee-wee Herman, so I'm interested.

Wait you really have no idea who Apatow or what AD is? That is some big rock you must be living under.

Netflix's Magic algorithms strike again! Pee Wee deserves another chance, so this is great.

I'm optimistic with Apatow and Arrested Develoment writers involved.

Shit, there's a lot of negativity in this thread. I just watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure for the umpteenth time last week and it still holds up really well. They seem to have some good talent involved, so I am cautiously optimistic.

I miss those early Tim Burton movies.

I feel there's a wonderful creative purity with PWBA, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands... hell, even his version of Batman.

Old ass Reubens trying to cling to relevancy. Shit is sad. I loved Pee Wee's Big Adventure, but that was because it was during the height of Pee Wee mania.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure is one of the most re-watchable films ever made.

I don't have a television, almost never go to the movies, couldn't care less about Hollywood/celebrities,
and don't have friends.

I see that Judd Apatow was somehow involved in Anchorman, and all I know about that film is that it stars Satan Will Ferrell, and I absolutely can't stand the guy.

The Broadway show proved Reubens still has it. Looking forward to this. If you haven't watched that, you need to. It was real good.

There's a lotta things about me you don't know anything about, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand. You don't wanna get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel.

I'll never understand why people take pride in being out of touch with the world.

John Lee of PFFR (Wonder Showzen, Xavier: Renegade Angel & The Heart She Holler) is directIng!?

I couldn't have even dreamed of this pairing.

That's a weird way of looking at it considering Apatow is the one who seeked out Reubens for this project.
